Talking about your vacation home in shannondale, and how the people there are so down to earth and kind and hard working as if to debunk podunk backwoods scary WV stereotypes is a little weird. From Shannondale you can practically spit on the county with the highest median income in the whole damn country (Loudoun), and there’s plenty of people who live and commute to DMV jobs from that area. It’s is a little different than saying you are going to pick up your life and move to Welch or something.

I live in a diverse neighborhood in downtown DC. Spend most of my week-ends hiking & kayaking in WV.

Most of WV is indeed a bit of a dump. But nothing compared to downtown DC.

For starters, your Trump-voting WV neighbors don't leave big piles of human faeces outside your garage. Or throw up in your front yard. Both of which have happened to me in the past 24 hours.

I'll be glad to leave the progressive pleasures of DC life to my woke neighbors.

And yes, it's amusing how DC progressives are always terribly concerned about the poor, as long as they are not white males.

I know of no one moving to WV. I can't imagine making that as a choice.

PP living in WV. I recommend the eastern panhandle (towns already mentioned here like Shephardstown, Harper’s Ferry etc) or around Thomas & Davis/Canaan Valley.

Hardy County (Lost River area) is also nice for second homes and about an hour closer to DC vs. Canaan. Still easy to pop up to the higher elevation in Canaan Valley for a day of skiing or cooler weather in the summer but slightly less of a schlep for regular weekends.
