It has low recoil, and many have adjustable stocks, which means that shorter lighter people can fire it effectively, and the same firearm can fit multiple family members. First time my partner shot a shotgun with a trainer, they got a black eye from holding the stock loosly and the kickback was quite strong which makes follow up shots much more difficult.

You may be surprised to learn that you worry less about over penetration with .233 than many shotgun loads. In other words, you worry less that the round will go through your exterior walls and into someone elses house.

Those are great reasons to accept dead elementary school kids.

It's about what the proper tool is for a situation. A scoped deer rifle isn't an appropriate tool for self defense in a home. It's like looking through binoculars, and the round can penetrate your neighbors house.

So an AR is the only weapon suitable for home defense.
