Most recently, a friend's DC interned with one of the KY racing farms as part of an internship. She confirmed that they euthanize young, healthy horses who underperform in racing. She opted for a different career path (out of the equine industry) as a result. If you support racing, you support this. (And this is not even the darkest underbelly of racing).
I seriously doubt this. I have owned and trained many horses and no one is euthanizing underperforming horses. There is always a market for young athletic lightly raced thoroughbreds as eventing horses, show horses or even just trail plodders. There is also a huge network of horse people working to connect retired racehorses with new owners. Most horses have relatively short racing careers— but still go on to be happy, hardworking (the thoroughbred has an amazing work ethic) talented amateur mounts.

Mostly they sell them at auction. OTTB (off the track thoroughbreds) are sporthorses across the country. But euthanasia would be more responsible, rather than pawning off last year's racehorses onto everyone else.

You’re right. Latinos need to get out and let others get sh#t done, train and ride the horses, and run the event.
It seemed like half the jockeys were French.
