I'm a Langley parent and not nervous at all. What a stupid comment. I am, however, amused that the OP and others are breathlessly excited about this.

No is excited. I’m pretty sure it won’t happen; they will be zoned for Marshall bc the SB is full of crap.

Anonymous wrote:Are you talking about the redevelopment of the Sheraton? Because while that will be affordable housing, it will be mostly v small efficiencies/one br apartments. So not a lot of kids, so kind of a moot point.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:This is a tricky spot - it's currently zoned for Marshall, but within a mile or so of the boundaries for Madison, McLean and Langley. If FCPS was strategic (and that's a big IF) this would serve as a catalyst for reviewing Tysons' school zones.
And Marshall will probably get screwed and end up with a much higher FARMS rate than all of the other schools listed.
They don’t already?
Anonymous wrote:Ok, so then new topic. Should the 175 affordable units (not 500 as previously stated) go to Marshall or Langley? Not so dramatic anymore, huh?

There are multiple projects going on in that area. The Sheraton one will be mostly efficiencies, and isn’t being marketed as “affordable housing” (other than a small # of affordable dwelling units required by the County) but bc the units will be so small, it will be affordable just because of the size per square foot. You can read about this at https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2022/02/25/jbg-sheraton-tysons-hotel.html. This will be marketed to young professionals and wont be much of a worry for NIMBYs re school attendance zones.
Then, there is the Dominion West project linked in the Inside Nova article. This is an awesome project that will help fill some serious needs for affordable housing in the area. This is the project that the NIMBYs have to worry about re brown kids going to their schools.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Aren’t 85% of the 500 new units going to be efficiencies? This is what was reported in the WBJ. Not a lot of kids will be living there and/or needing schooling.
Let's not let facts get in the way of this debate.

Plenty of islands or nearly-islands already exist bussing wealthy neighborhoods to good schools, so it's not unprecedented to create an island in this case either.
right - like Timber lane being zoned to Mclean?
Or parts of Herndon (Bandy Run, e.g.) for Langley?
