Where do kids from kentlands go to high school?

whenever I go to a friend's at Kentlands for dinner, we can see right into the next door neighbor's kitchen. We can see them eating, and they can see us eating. I mean, I guess it's "close knit", but personally, I don't want to be that "close knit".

This. We lived there and moved pretty quickly. It's close knit as in everyone knows and gossips about everyone else and their kids.

This is 100% untrue. We’ve lived here for 7 years, and have never gossiped about anyone.

You must not get out much.

We get out a ton! We’re extremely involved in the community. You just don’t know much about this neighborhood.

It is a very Stepford-like, very white community. It is the epitome of a bubble. But if that is what impresses you, along with their overcrowded and mediocre elementary school, by all means, go for it.

Umm … our really good friends who live on our block are half-Iranian, half-Colombian. We have people we know in this neighborhood who are Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Georgian, etc.

But sure. Continue to talk about a neighborhood you clearly don’t know anything about.

Iran and Colombia are also full of white people.

The RCES principal position is officially posted through April 21. Would expect interviews to be in early May and an announcement in late May/early June of the new principal.

The kentlands has its 1 point million homes but it has significantly more apartments and split condos and even condos. I'm sure there are many more pocs in the Kentlands then there are in north potomac which has a handful of townhouses but is otherwise million dollar(s) homes.

Principal Chep was truly a rock star Principal. Mcps should put him and other stand outs in charge of a Principal training program if they want to regain the reputation for the school district.

Then the neighborhood is not for you! I love having a small yard, less maintenance. I love that my kids walk to school every day. That saves a significant amount of time for them. They get up later and get home earlier than their peers at other schools. It's definitely an advantage.

I’ve watched from afar as my kids are all long gone from RCES. It used to be a crown jewel of schools in MoCo. Today? I wouldn’t send my kids there. Puts a stain on what is overall an amazing (and possibly best) community in MoCo.

First gen parents? Kentlands was there in the 1990s. Those parents already have kids who have kids.

It’s a great community. We are long time residents.

That said, Rachel Carson has plummeted under the new principal. A mass exodus to private schools. Do your research and talk to other parents. As someone who loves the community it’s very painful to watch. Just 3 years ago there were plans to alleviate the massive overcrowding. Now, enrollment has dropped so much (and projections show continued drop) all plans are off the table.

I don't know about leaving for private school; however, the peak of the Rachel Carson is the 2025 graduation year. There are some younger families, just not as many because most of the residents have already had their kids due to the age of the housing. People aren't moving out of the neighborhood. You will find very little inventory because we love the neighborhood so much.

There isn't bussing to the high school either. There are a lot of kids that walk to all the schools, including high school. I consider it a safe walking environment since the streets are narrow. If you're concerned about traffic in the morning, sign them up for the before care. My kids went through it and loved it.

By "can't afford" PP means "choose not to live in a neighborhood where your house is 3.2 inches from your neighbor." It's close knit alright
