I’m 55. Weed smells the same today as it did when I was in high school. I didn’t try cannabis until two years ago. I have a medical card. I don’t smoke because I understand that people don’t want to smell it. Edibles don’t work for me. I have PTSD and when I feel panic coming on, I need something that will take effect quickly. Edibles take 45 minutes to an hour to work (for most people). They also stay in your system for hours.

I use a vape pen. It doesn’t smell as strong. It starts working quickly. And the effects are gone in less than an hour. I’ve been on Xanax, klonopin, and Valium. All have nasty side effects and carry a risk of addiction. Cannabis has eliminated the need for benzos. I have a full bottle of Xanax with refills that I haven’t touched in over a year. I no longer need daily medication.

You must have been smoking that shag.

Yup. During my HS years in the 90’s the kind buds smelled like skunk and the schwag was nasty.

Yep. There’s a reason they call the cheap weed skunk.

Good weed has a sweet smell. Don’t smell that around DC too much anymore.

Not even true. I grow and normally have about 6 plants going at a time. The flower (what you smoke) has sulfur compounds which is what you smell. The more mature thr flower, the more sticky crystals, the more sulfur, thr more pungent. So much so that I have to have massive vents or my house will smell like a skunk and the more mature my plants get the more it stinks. Yes, some strains have a lemon undertone some have a pine undertone. This is used as a marketing tool. However skunk is always the dominate smell. If you harvest too early when the flowers are not mature and not potent then, yea it’s not going to smell as strong.

A lot of olds on here just making stuff up.

Massive vents, huh? So when I walk past a building in my neighborhood that smells like pot 24/7, even first thing in the morning, it's because someone in there is growing it and has "massive vents" making the whole neighborhood smell like skunk?

Iremember going to concerts in the 80s and 90s and smelling more of an herby, catnippy smell. These days, I definitely smell skunk. Why do people want to deal with that skunky smell is beyond me.

Agree. Even in Jamaica for spring break back in the day it did not smell like skunk.

48 year old and the smell is so strong and intense now. It's just awful. I can't believe people want to smell like that. The worst was attending an away HS basketball game and the parents and student fans clearly had all been smoking in the parking lot. You could not get away from the smell. My son came off the court and said he could smell it the entire game. My husband and I thought we were going to get a contact high from sitting there for an hour. Edibles please...

OMG granny. Nobody is smoking it to smell good or bad. It’s to get high. Dear god you sound like a relic

Pot used to be hard to come by, even 15 years ago. Let alone high quality shit. So now there is an abundance of high quality shit and it is relatively cheap. Supply is up and so is quality. And so is acceptance.

All you olds -- the reason it didn't smell bad. Not as much, poor quality, and people tried to hide it, so not as frequent.

Skunk is a strain which can be on the sativa or indica side (creative high vs. couchlock) depending on the hybrid. It's generally a middle of the road high. The producers are so good they can make it taste like lemons at this point, but smell like skunk on exhale.

I don't agree with smoking whenever or wherever, especially while driving. And I don't think teens should be consuming as much as they are.

Good night, Sour LSD vape strain incoming.....

Say what? Did you grow up in DC as in District of Columbia? That DC?

Weed was NOT hard to come by. I cold literally drive down to
Florida and 7th around Morton pl and it was a 24x7 open air drug market. You had your choice of corner door dealer and supply was certainly variable.

Did you grow up a mall rat at Tysons corner mall loitering at PacSun or something? Because that’s not DC.

Anonymous wrote:Good lord with all the bad info on here. How good or bad the weed is has nothing to do with it. It has to do with what sulfuric compounds are in a particular plant.

Indica strains are predominantly the culprits for the stronger skunky smells. Sativa tends to be a sweeter, woody smell. Indica weed is good for relaxing you so it’s often used for anxiety, stress, sleep problems, etc. And for pain. Sativa produces and more energetic high.

Why do people notice more of a skunky smell now than they remember from years ago? Probably a couple of reasons - the popularity of several Kush strains over the past 20-30 years, which are Indica. And also because medical marijuana prescriptions are for Indica strains than Sativa ones

What irony.

You criticize “bad info” then proceed to use a racist term.
