The view of education that this reveals is deeply problematic and un-American. This country is built on the idea of progress.
If we are at a stage where so-called progressives think that doing well in school is a sign that you are pandering to white supremacy, then these people need to be removed from every education Board in the country.

I agree - but Asians are going to need to start speaking out about this. Not to mention, voting for Republicans.
This Asian woman right here will NEVER vote for another Democrat. I’m done. Used to be a regular Democrat voter, but it is clear that they no longer want my vote. Will find other options.
Makes sense.
I am a Democratic white voter who doesn’t feel like I have a political home these days. I can’t vote for Trump Republicans and their traitorous insurrection, but the Democrats have lost me with their school closures, anti-Asian racism, how they’ve handled some trans issues, destruction of education, and anti-Semitism.
I am not sure exactly what to do. If I had been in VA for the last governor election I probably wouldn’t have voted at all.
I’m the PP. I would have voted for Youngkin in a heartbeat and I think he’s doing a good job.
I’m interested in DeSantis and I hope the Republican put forth a strong Republican candidate in the next presidential election. I think he/she would win by a landslide.
I totally don't get any of those arguments the "I'm a Democrat but..." PP made above.
- The schools aren't closed
- How are Democrats responsible for anti-Asian racism? Were they the ones going around saying "kng flu?"
- There were definitely some bad missteps in how the Loudon trans case was handled but there was a lot of right wing dishonesty too. School board properly referred it to the police and was legally prohibited from disclosing any details but that was weaponized against them by the right wing.
- How is the left destroying education and what has the right wing proposed that's better? The right wing hates universities, attacked K-12 standards, wants to completely gut public school education and funnel all of the money into privately run Christian schools.
- How is the left anti-Semitic? By doing things like criticizing Netanyahu's policies and criticizing illegal Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory? Sorry but that's that's policy debate, not anti-Semitism.
The right fringes can be blatantly anti semitic and anti Asian. The left is more insidious about it - which I actually think is worse. You haven’t even noticed the anti Asian taste to the TJ thing.
Anyone remember China Flu? Is the head of a part the fringe now?

So what is worse? A racist who uses the phrase “China flu” but who does not want to remove your child’s chances at admissions to elite education institutions, or a racist who loudly talks about never using a racist phrase like “China flu” but who explicitly supports policies designed to keep your child from elite education institutions solely because of your child’s race?
I mean, did you read the Tweets from Alison Collins that a lot of Democrats were silent about? Are those tweets really so much better than “China flu”? Really?
Anonymous wrote:Honestly, you see this in a lot of biracial folks, and psychological research proves this, but many times there is an overcompensation on the part of biracial people toward race. It depends on which side they identify with more, but it seems like Alison Collins probably hasn’t similar issues and is overcompensating for her biracialness by writing hostile, borderline racist tweets and pushing extreme policies that got her removed from the board. Look at Collin Keipernick as well.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco residents recalled three members of the city’s school board Tuesday for what critics called misplaced priorities and putting progressive politics over the needs of children during the pandemic.
Voters overwhelmingly approved the recall in a special election, according to tallies by the San Francisco Department of Elections.
This is wishful thinking.
The LCPS recall will fail. It's nominally about the presence of two Board members in a Facebook group (with thousands of members) where there was some thread about identifying people campaigning against anti-racism policies in LCPS (i.e., people wanted to call out the racists). The argument is that they violated open meetings laws by being members of this group where this was discussed. It took MONTHS to get 10% of the voters to sign the recall petition, so people aren't exactly clamoring for this. The technical basis for the recall is flimsy at best -- really, this is an attempt to recall people based on ideological/policy reasons, which is not permitted under Virginia law.
Around the country in November, candidates who ran for school board by ranting about "CRT" were soundly rejected. It will be even harder for such people in the next cycle as people observe the disaster that has been the Youngkin administration in its first month -- he's been a national embarrassment. The fixation on "CRT" is also not even a national thing, just the figment of the niche right-wing media. People either don't care or would LIKE to see its concepts taught.
While the anti-mask furor is similarly niche -- anti-mask people are extremely outspoken but very much in the minority, the resentment over school closures is real. But, we're well passed that now.
To the degree that districts mess with advanced education programs, however, there could be blowback on boards. One of the main reasons Youngkin won in Virginia is Asian-American populations upset about Math Pathways and TJ voted for him. There's some truth to this but it will really only be a factor in places where these communities are large enough to sway an election at the margins.
