So what will you do if some of your students show up with no masks? Quit?

Out of curiosity, do you teach elementary or middle/high school? Just curious if you have around 20 students total or around 100.

Kids who show up to my classroom without masks will be sent to the office to be suspended from school if they don’t comply. How is this even a question.

+1 And if they are sent back to my classroom then I will gather my things and leave. I will not be in a classroom with kids who are not masked. (DP)

Do you really believe their cotton Batman mask from target is keeping you alive? Really?

Spoken like someone who has never taught. Have you ever worked closely with a child reading and they cough right in your face or sneeze.....so yeah most teachers appreciate the masks right now-event he batman ones.

I don’t understand how anti-maskers don’t understand that they will be preventing more children from getting an education. We will have more quarantines for teachers and students once the mask come off while we’re in a surge. Don’t we all want the kids in school?

The difference between countries that are not mandating masks for children in schools or those under 5 is that there is significantly more testing in those countries. It is too bad that government officials have access to frequent testing while all of us plebes do not. This is why Biden forgets to put on a mask in a state where there is an indoor mask mandate and also why he nor those in the administration felt compelled to ramp up testing capacity in the country - because he and anyone around him are tested so often, they are in their own bubble and cannot comprehend what it feels like to be flying blind as is the case in many school districts. I would be okay with opt-outs if school districts had the ability to test two times a week but that is just not the reality.

The way that Virginia works is that the governor cannot ban mask mandates. Schools make those decisions,” he said. “We will in fact, then, also make sure that schools allow parents to exercise their rights for what’s best for their children, to opt-out of those mandates."

There is no rule saying an opt out must be provided. He’s just blowing smoke at dumb parents who don’t know any better.

Are you saying the Youngkin and Miyares do not have the authority to make schools offer an opt out?

He does not.

This teacher is disgusting with calling kids ‘whack jobs with anxiety’. We have many SN kids who were born with neuro-issues. They can’t help it. And are doing their best each day. I hope this teacher does resign. They are obviously in the wrong job.

No one is taking away your masks. You and your children may continue wearing them.

Last week it was “ There will be no teachers! Students will infect and wipe out the entire school by Tuesday!”

The issue is ensuring YOU and YOUR children continue wearing them. I already know mine will be.

Exactly.

+ a million our kids will be wearing masks....the responsible families are worried about selfish families.

Anonymous wrote:I will send all of my DCs in with fitted masks with two meltblown filtration layers (they look like KN95 masks but it's hard to find actual KN95s and they don't fit KF94s). I will also ask the to keep them on regardless of how many of their peers are not wearing one. After the Omicron surge and hospitals are not under a state of emergency, I won't worry about whether they keep them on and after cases come down.

As for Youngkin imminent executive order, I think there will be a lawsuit arising out of Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church or Alexandria to challenge its validity.

In the meantime, if Youngkin wants to be DeSantis-lite, I hope he increases testing in schools to two times a week. I hope he installs clinics for easy access to monoclonal antibodies. I hope he procures a large supply of antivirals and makes it easy for those who test positive to access them very soon after diagnosis. None of these things would be mandates but will help get Virginia through the Omicron surge and surges from future variants.

He isnt banning masks, he is just offering choice..not sure why everyone is upset, there are vaccines and boosters.

Hospital crisis. VA hospitals are doing excellent compared to pre-COVID for this time of the year. Hospitals are usually 80% occupied during non-flu seasons, and often fill up during flu seasons.

Right now, VA is at 78% hospital beds occupied and 81% of ICU beds. They're doing amazing. That's what happens when you have a high vaccination rates and a variant is a cold.

It’s not about the beds right around here. It is about the staff required to tend to the people in the beds. They are sick, decided to,get more money as a traveling nurse, or just quit. There’s nothing magic about an “icu” bed - it’s the monitoring by humans that is the important part.

They aren't "sick". They just tested positive. The unnecessary quarantines are causing the shortages at hospitals.

Stop with your ignorance this person is giving examples and we are sorry if it doesn't fit your selfish narrative but yes some people are getting sick.

Has everyone memory holed the fact that Northam’s original mandate was for ten and up and all of his emergency orders until summer of 2021 - post vaccine available for all adults - had an opt out that specifically said schools and business could NOT ask for proof? Youngkin could literally copy and paste our esteemed Democratic governor.

No, the school mandate was separate and people could not opt out.

The anti-maskers will 100% force us back to virtual school (despite the law) because there simply will be not enough staff willing to work.

And last week it was covid deniers and anti vaxxers you said would wipe out the schools, and force everyone back to virtual! Schools are superspreader spreader events!

Thankfully.

They won’t lift the mandate, but will be required to allow parents to opt-out their children.

Banning mask mandates is straight-up RWNJ crap. Won’t go over well in northern Virginia.

Won’t fly with local school districts. And there will be a huge backlash.

This is what the order might look like - https://publications.tnsosfiles.com/pub/execorders/exec-orders-lee84.pdf

The school districts around here, teachers with disabilities or have high risk family members, and parents of students with disabilities should be able to get a temporary restraining order or injunction to block the enforcement of an opt-out in their school districts.

So you’ll be fine with kids not wearing masks next month when the omicron wave has passed? (Genuinely curious - not being snarky.)
\

Not the poster you are responding to....but no I think masks should continue for this year. Everyone wants schools open and teachers in the building this is how it happens....we act safely and with humanity.

You do understand that many, many places in this country, and all over the world, aren't enforcing mask mandates on kids and they are better off then we are here?

False.
