I agree, BUT, as the child of a charming alcoholic, I think they get this right. When my dad was good, he was REALLY good, and everyone put him up on a pedestal.

Sally confesses all her marriage woes and suddenly she and Rebecca are BFFs? No.
Nicky is rude to a flight attendant ...and she marries him? No.
Deja lied that she was staying over her friend' Tiffany's house. They didn't know she was on a bus to Boston, and probably why she only stayed overnight and not for the weekend. According to the previews Randall finds out about the teens having $ex from Deja's Siri texts.
I think the Sally and Rebecca bonding was actually great - these two women who crossed paths and have bottled up emotions, confronting aging, just bonded. The Pearson family really needs friends, especially ones that other family members won't try to marry later.
I think Nicky came across as crusty but not hostile with Edie but willing to open up. She seems like one of the first characters I've ever seen him look in the eye directly.

Plus 1. My take, exactly
I think Nicky came across as crusty but not hostile with Edie but willing to open up. She seems like one of the first characters I've ever seen him look in the eye directly.

Such a compelling character at first but now my response to him is invariably "oh great it's drama queen Randall, sucking all the oxygen out of the room as usual."
I can't think of any character in television that I've had such a dramatic change of heart about.
Door Number Beth, though, was the best scene in the episode, by a mile.
