I was like your son, then went to live in Europe and dating there was 10x easier (and no it wasn’t with eastern euro women or Roma).

Then I came back and it was easier for me to date having my European experience under My belt.

If your son is an average guy, dating in your teens and 20s is not easy (it gets easy in your thirties).

Thin 16-26 age conventionally attractive American women is dating on hard mode.

In some ways, it’s good not to have college relationships now because careers, debt, long distance, desire to hook up with others and pursuit of perfect partner can lead to breakups. Unfortunately, society is currently against committed and serious relationships, which it’s one root of emotional health issues, late marriages, infertility and divorces.

It’s not abnormal but not normal either. Any 21 year old who is surrounded by hundreds of women his age on daily basis at a college campus, should be able to connect with someone who he finds attractive and likeminded. I think college is a great place to find partners who can be your friends as well as partners. You have opportunities to mingle, have common friends, academic interests, ambitions, events, sports, causes, parties, activities etc. If you can’t develop a good relationship there, it’s only going to get tougher in post college world.

That being said, may be your son is exploring his sexual orientation or doesn’t feel secure enough to get into a relationship. Hopefully he’ll figure it out with time as some are late bloomers, indecisive self-absorbed or into immature and temporary hookups without deep connections.
