It’s the same reason I don’t follow traffic laws unless I know I’m in an area with cameras. No consequences for violating.

One of the lovely members of the neighborhood was able to orient me to another neighbor who had a camera. The sight line was directly across the street. I have video of the pretty new model of a navy Mazda 3 hatchback car (sadly can’t clearly see the license plate) and a young man who scopes the car and then calls his friends. They did this in broad daylight around 3:30-4 PM. A really swift move. The guy was thin, looked tall, presumed white with black hair. Had skinny jeans on, a hoody with a pea coat and white sneakers. The video quality is not super clear. When I called for glass repair the man said this I was the fifth call on 12/23/21. I called the police just to submit the information and video I have. I suspect this will continue to happen and know my belongings are gone (I don’t have homeowners/renters insurance) but was curious if there are some internet vigilantes (maybe I watch too much Netflix) that bring the information together. I understand that these incidences are happening because of disparities but we are not affluent—just newlyweds trying to treat ourselves to an appetizer at a nice place.

They know there's a slim chance of any significant consequences. That's why it's so common. Don't be so naive.

Should I care more if they are minorities?

Yes, since it is minority on minority crime.

Is that better or worse?

Cool, so since I pay a few thousand to insure various property (home, vehicles) in DC, can I get a credit against my property taxes for my insurance bills, or the vandalism or theft losses? Since the government's apparent position is this BS that it's just a property crime, call your insurance. Heaven forbid anyone have "nice" things. And by "nice" things I mean my 11 year old vehicle that still had parts stolen off of it.

I voted Dem but with attitudes on the left like this, the Rs can have all the ammo to talk about this issue as they want as far as I'm concerned.

No one even said these crimes were committed by BIPOC, by the way, you just assumed that so good job.

You are a sucka. Stop falling prey to obvious troll posts. Good Lord.

Are you on NextDoor?

I have real life neighbors in Montgomery County that spew progressive nonsense like the first OP. They are definitely not trolls. But people who believe they are doing the ‘compassionate’ thing and that people who steal are only doing so out of dire necessity.

I believe this would be considered a success. No guns were involved and no one died. Yes, the bar is that low.

Not a smash and grab, but a great outcome to this attempted burglary......

In Fairfax, VA. Good for this resident. As they say, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.......

From the article: "The chief said at that point in October, police had arrested 78 juveniles in connection with carjackings this year, including four youths arrested more than once. He said that over a 22-month period, 17 juveniles had been arrested in homicide cases."

But how will putting criminal youth behind bars stop crime?

Say, they are 17 when they are put in jail for five years. When they emerge at age 22, they will no longer be "criminal youth," but "adult criminals." Easier to get them convicted then and keep them in prison

Anonymous wrote:What these trumpies don't realize us that insurance is basically free money for everyone. So some BIPOC liberate goods from the capitalist system. No big deal. Just make a claim and the insurance fairy magically pulls the money from Scrooge McDuck's tower and so the insurance company never needs to raise rates or increase deductibles on other businesses to make up the loss.

Its definitely not the case that crime sprees cause insurance costs spike and retailers pass the cost through via price increases that are most difficult for the working poor to bear. That's crazy talk you trumpies!

Ah, a point of reference to Scrooge McDuck explains so much, so very much.
