That was obnoxious, pp. As a parent of an older BASIS student, I know that the school strongly encourages the students to advocate for themselves and their education. They would prefer that the students have the meetings with the teachers and want even the younger students to feel comfortable asking for help. This is a great skill for any young person to have.

Last year was an anomaly due to distance learning - and that is why the administration was so clear about NOT continuing the parental access via TEAMS.

I, for one, LOVE that they don't have the online gradebooks and prefer the snapshots. I do not need to hover over my child's grades and I like that the snapshots are wake up calls to the students. I would be perfectly happy with just midterm and final grade reports.


Well aren't you the best parent ever!

Last year on Teams, having access to what assignments were done & what was missing helped my kid learn how to manage school and helped me know if there were problems.

Not in middle - no. But Basis isn't kidding when they say that 5th grade is really about just skills. They will basically do Latin again from the beginnning next year, so don't sweat it too much. It's ok if they do poorly on one thing or another. The skills they need to learn - getting organized, learning to self advocate, learning to go to student hours when they need to, etc. is really the point of the year. I didn't really believe this when I was in your shoes, but by the end of the year it made more sense to me. Letting them fails is ok -- and probably a really good thing.


I really like this aspect about 5th grade. These are skills my kid definitely needs to learn, and I'm glad he's getting the chance to learn in a low-stakes year.

Online report cards aren't the same thing as online gradebooks.

5th -7th grade reports have NOT been issued. New parents are confused.

What has been issued are those bi-weekly “snapshots” that tell you how your kid is doing based on info entered into the system thus far (which for a number of teachers is fairly incomplete).

GP-1 grade reports have not gone out to anyone because GP1 hasn’t ended yet.
