Thank you for this realistic view on what’s out there. My hope would be to find someone eventually to be exclusive with, but not interested in another marriage or combining finances. Seems like it might be more involved than I thought, but all I need ultimately is one good one!

If you haven't dated in over 25 years, then you will be in for a wild ride. Things have changed... It really depends what you are looking for. Are you looking for a relationship or just someone to have fun with, go out once in a while and perhaps FWB? I'm also 50 and single (widowed) and if you are attractive and in shape, then it is not hard to find men who want to have fun, go out on a few dates and perhaps FWB. It is much more difficult to find a serious relationship.

Divorced men in their 40's to mid 50's are often just out of a long marriage and they aren't ready to commit, but want to play the field a bit. They often are also short on $$$ because they are paying child support and alimony to the ex. Then there are the ones that were in long time marriages where the wife filed for divorce because she was sick of taking care of him. These types of men tend to be stage 3 clingers that attach themselves to you because they are looking for another victim to take care of them. The ones at 60+ often have all sorts of health issues, so you see the pickings are often slim. Make a list of absolute deal breakers and go slow and try to have fun. Also, be sure to protect yourself if are going to have sex with a new person. Protection was often not an issue a long term marriage, but if you are putting yourself out there, then you need to be sure to have protection, get frequent testing and ask your partners to be tested as well.
