I don't think that August great at all. I feel like almost any month there is an issue. I still go back to a June 2 is the best.
Please explain which meet is bad for an august bday.

My kid’s best meet is always the October open bc he has a November birthday. Doesn’t have finals there but generally gets the best cuts of his age then. Also November makes him competitive for summer LC because he is always age and a half or so, though I have to say he is always grateful when the summer kids who get to swim down in summer league have to swim their actual age for LC). And he doesn’t give up on SCY JOs either - just keeps working for those time standards.
Point being, there are always kids who have more advantages but you make the best of it. I have no problem with age group swimming as organized.
To be fair, your nov bday kid has a pretty good bday for jos, long course championship meet, and summer. He doesn’t need to make the “best of anything.”
Anonymous wrote:Slight hijack here, but this is our first experience with club swim. Are the younger kids, say the 9-12 year olds, actually aware of things like JO cut times and the time standards? Is this something that the coaches talk to them about? I don’t think my kid (9-10 group in one of the big clubs) has any clue about these things, and I feel like that’s for the best, they just care about dropping time and getting more comfortable with the events that aren’t their favorite.

- Have good JO birthdays (the August kid is 13 and 7 months at the meet)
- Have a good LC Champs (the August kid is 13 and 11 months at the meet)
-Have a good summer swim birthday (the August kid is 13 and 10 months/11 months)
This is of course totally correct- at the same time, a swimmer like Katie Ledecky or even some of the top swimmers in NOVA, NCap, et al....it never mattered/doesn't matter when their birthday was/is, they won/win regardless. A little different once they get into open territory (15 and up)
