This is inaccurate. Duke is still adored by rich teens at my kid's high school with no affiliation to the college. They're good colleges, obviously, but I've literally never seen any teen adore Northwestern or UChicago. And your Durham disses are about 20 years stale. What is the Research Triangle? What did North Carolina's census numbers look like compared to Chicago? North Carolina is booming, Chicago overall is basically stagnant. Obviously Rust Belt flyover country college grads still pour into Chicago — but even that draw is being dinged by the rise of Nashville, Denver, and kids preferring the warmer Sun Belt.

Durham isn't exactly the most desirable town

No, but the idea of repeatedly clamoring that Northwestern is an elite school turns us off, to be honest. We understand it is a good school. Most alums of elite universities don't do that. You don't see Ivy, Stanford, MIT, or Duke parents do that on the forums. The only ones crying the loudest for peer recognition are UChicago, Northwestern, and Johns Hopkins. And UVA parents too. A bunch of crybabies.

And Notre Dame has football to fly in for ... a college like Boulder has gorgeous mountains ... if you're from a major coastal city, what's a draw about metro Chicago? Not much.
