Yes. And, IMO, Fetterman’s talk about “New Jersey” is a dog whistle...sure, Oz has the NJ connection, but by “New Jersey” he really means “Turkey” and is leaving unsaid what a lot of Pennsylvanians will pick up on regarding ol’ Mehmet.

I don’t agree, just the Jersey thing is bad enough. It’s like a guy from Ohio running in Michigan.

Ummm he has mostly lived in NJ and Fetterman is using tons of FAMOUS NJ (not Turkish) people to point that out so you’re seeing what you want

It's the tone deafness of it all. Half the people probably don't know what the heck a crudite is. Of the other half, there are probably a significant number that don't know that's how it's pronounced. Never mind that it's just a veggie tray, and what he bought makes absolutely no sense in the context of someone putting together a veggie tray.


Isn't a crudite a kind of horse devorse?

A little indeed! It's not like his gaffes are part of the charm. For him they just serve to emphasize how far apart he is from the people he claims to want to represent.


For realz. What really gets to me is not that he's unrelatable but that he's so terrifically fake. Why not just own being a rich Turkish NJ transplant to PA and propose good ideas to reach PA voters? There are plenty PA people of all economic stripes who enjoy good food (crudite with salsa and guac, though??) who would appreciate some quality proposals for the state. Why pretend to be "of the people" instead of just being above most people but with solid ideas?
Anyway, I'm Fetterman all the way, and so are my PA family members. Not just because they're D (they are) but also because they appreciate authenticity, whatever that may look like.


The whole point to Dr. Oz is that like Trump, he is a Hollywood facade of a person. He's not a real candidate. The Trump supporters who will support Oz are vapid one-issue or two-issue voters. As long as he says the right things about their issue, then they don't care how inane he is. He looks good on camera, but is a fool. He's a perfect type of person to carry on Trump's legacy.

But he is not what Pennsylvanians want. I suspect that the next 3 months are going to be the longest of his life as he watches even Trump supporters slide off the hot air balloon to Oz. Even Republican PACs have cancelled their planned advertising on his behalf. Rats leaving a sinking ship.

He was trying to counter Fetterman's blue collar vibe by showing he's a man of the people. But he gloriously failed because he made it pointedly obvious that he hasn't shopped for himself in a supermarket since before Oprah Winfrey found him and he has no idea how to make food.

So, he proved Fetterman's point that he's a wealthy out-of-touch doctor from New Jersey and a Hollywood glamour star who has no idea how real people and especially residents of Pennsylvania think and behave in a supermarket.

Yes, and also, in general, people in the US tend to use French words in when they are trying to be fancy and sophisticated. When I planned my wedding, the caterer offered "crudité" for the cocktail hour. Otherwise, it's not a word I see or hear much. Having a party at the country club, inviting the CEOs and their spouses over for dinner, or going out to someone's house in the Hamptons? Then, sure, use the word crudité. Otherwise, if you're eating at home, having your friends over for dinner, or going to the neighborhood block party, it's a vegetable tray. And as a native Pennsylvanian, I think I can say, frankly, that unless you're from the Main Line or Society Hill or the Pittsburgh equivalent, most Pennsylvanians would say, "WTF is he talking about?" even if they know what the word means. Because no one talks like that.


There was more important stupidity than using that word:

He misstated the store's name - so he probably knows Wegmans and mixed up!
He bought some weird combinations of vegetables, quantities, and condiments for the vegetable tray - probably has clue.
Who drinks toquilla with vegetables?
He did not have a cart or basket - so this was a stunt.

Stupid ad stunt by an out-of-touch millionaire!

You sure can insert it here, but America isn’t culturally French. That’s like me going to France and being upset no one knows what a hot dish is.

I grew up in midwest rust belt just barely above the poverty line. I knew what it was.
