It's these little things, isn't it, that really sell the fact that he's compromised. That list of questions someone posted earlier in the thread is also awfully damning.
I missed that, this thread has gotten so EUGE, could you paste or quote? thanks!
Unverified also doesn't mean false so it must be false. However, when you line up much of what is in the unverified report with real world facts, there is a lot that gets explained.
Why did the Trump campaign make one single change in the GOP Platform - Ukraine?
Why was Manafort the campaign chair? Can you explain the $12.7M he made from Pro-Putin forces?
Why is Flynn the NSA designee after receiving money from RT, Putin's propaganda network?
Explain Stone's trips and relationships?
How much does Tillerson expect to gain from his shell oil companies that have Russian partners?
Why is Trump always favoring Russia/Putin over US/Allies?
Why did Trump people meet with LePen yesterday?
How much money does the Trump Organization have in debt to the significant (according to Trump, jr) to Russian financial interests including mobsters and oligarchs?
Answer some of these questions and we can begin to feel confident our President isn't completely compromised.

He obviously believes the Russians (though the Russians are known to use propaganda and lies way more than the US media) more than he does the US IC. Reagan is turning over in his grave and giving Trump the finger.
But WHERE does he get his Russian propaganda when? On RT in his office? Subscribes to Pravda? Reads Yandex News in the original?
He calls Putin and chats.
More probably, people on his team tell him. The reason the US IC isn't incredibly alarmed is that there is evidence to suggest that Trump's team is communicating heavily with Russia, but not Trump himself. So far, he just seems clueless, not actively working with Russia.

Yep - like that Cohen guy now has hashtag going #noPrague - how about #neverhadanymeetingswithanyRussians?
The whole bit "I asked Cohen to show me his passport in my office" during the press conference was absolutely ridiculous (I'm amazed that MSM didnt go deeper into it) - if you know that your people have no compromising contacts who cares what stamps they have in their passports?
They deflect and distract, just like their minions do here. Btw, weren't Jared and Ivanka in Croatia this summer with Putin's putative girlfriend?

Dropping off the grid renders Steele much more vulnerable to an actual threat to his safety from the Russians. Whereas staying very noticeable and public, "hiding in plain sight," so to speak, would provide him with much more protection. If Putin had him assassinated now, no one would know. Because he's gone already.
It's like if you think someone is following you to do you harm, you don't go into a dark deserted alley, you try to find some place with lots of light and lots of people.
So, no, no legitimate intelligence operate or ex operative practicing "tradecraft" would choose this moment to disappear if his concern was his personal safety. He would do the opposite: be as public and noticeable as possible. He would go on the news media shows and very publicly give interviews stating that he fears for his safety and if anything happens to him, Putin was the one who ordered the hit. Even if it looks like an accident (brakes failed or something).
On the other hand, financial scammers and con artists are the types who pull these kind of disappearing acts, and they do it all the time.
Steele was very useful to the intelligence agencies and media outlets who are now claiming he was a "reliable source" because he provided them all with easy plausible deniability. Steele could just sit down at his word processor and make up any old shit. If he had a bit of a conscience he might call one of his old cronies back in Russia and say "Hey man I need a source for some shit I am going to make up for a client. So I need you to make up some thing lurid about Trump. When I get paid I will give you 10%."
Or maybe Steele didn't even do that with this Trump nonsense. Maybe he just completely made the whole thing up. Wouldn't have been a problem except Trump got elected and somehow the thing got leaked to the point where it blew up on Steele. He can't back up anything, he knows how litigious Trump is, and he needs to hide to avoid the process servers that he knows are coming his way.
Also he probably committed any number of federal crimes in fabricating this stuff--mail fraud, wire fraud, and I'm sure there's a few other felonies in there too.
So that's why he vanished. Just like every other scammer who's about to be exposed as a scammer.
This is the highest quality comment on this thread in quite a few pages. High quality isn't the same as correct, but I think all the armchair quarterbacks should read and re-read this a few times, to understand that these ideas are among the better informed and better thought out here. None of this is a sure thing, but definitely keep the above in mind.
A few further thoughts. Troublesome U.S. politicos show up dead in things like small plane crashes in remote areas, not getting shot on Capitol Hill. One of 20th C America's most reviled men, a man complicit in the deaths of many thousands, for decades walked the streets of downtown DC daily, his distinctive gait visible from at least a block away! He was always doing the opposite of hiding, he was surrounding himself with witnesses and potential collateral damage.
