There isn't a single theory that fits all the facts. Most confusing case ever. Also, for those who don't think Santa was healthy enough to do it, why do you think Patsy was? The woman was a cancer patient and also seemed pretty emotionally fragile.

Why the ransom note?

There's no reason an intruder would leave both the ransom note and the body.

There's no reason the family would leave both the ransom note and the body.

Sure there is. The ransom note points to an intruder rather than family. Whether the body is ultimately found inside or outside the house, it's useful to the parents to have evidence suggesting the killer wasn't a family member.

Because he wasn't planning to kill her there initially. He was going to smuggle her out of the house in the suitcase and do whatever he wanted to do somewhere else. I think he hoped the ransom note would buy him time.

O.k. that makes a certain amount of sense I suppose. I'm still not understanding why she put on yesterday's clothes when she had a closet full of clothes. PPs have mentioned that maybe she had a limited wardrobe because she had recently gained weight. Yet, she apparently didn't feel the need to pack much because she had a closet full of clothes at their other house....

This woman had clothes. It makes no sense that she would put old party clothes on.

Sometimes when you have a new outfit or a favourite outfit, you want to wear it a lot.

His wife's idea to make it look financially motivated.

When is that coming on - that's the one that I want to see. I think that seeing the rooms as they looked on that day (hopefully before items were removed from them) will help to fill in the gaps.

But if she was so vain, why was she overweight? Why didn't she exercise?
What did you read that made you think she wasn't the type to wear an outfit twice?
She was leaving early for vacation, grabbing that outfit was easy. She wasn't going to see the people that saw her wear that outfit the day before.

LOL, yes vain rich ladies never get fat?
As a person who struggles with my weight, I can totally see re-wearing a holiday party outfit. Maybe she put it on late on the day before and only wore it to the party. I have a closet FULL of clothes too, most of which I don't wear. And only a few of which I would consider Christmasy.

When this happened 20 years ago, lots of moms still looked like "moms" - not milfs or real housewives, not ripped from hitting the gym every day after dropping kids at school. It was Patsy's friend who commented that it was odd she was wearing the outfit from the night before.

So, moms were fatter twenty years ago? No they weren't.
