- have short, domestic supply chains;
- have inelastic demand relative to price;
- be able to get domestic production up and running relatively quickly.
Any thoughts on winners and losers here? A potential winners might be the domestic wine & beer industry - South American and Australian wines have gobbled market share based on low cost. Seems an easy reach to produce more domestic wine. Furniture might be another. The Carolinas used to produce large quantities before cheap Chinese imports took away their market.
Do you have any idea how long it takes to get a furniture factory up and running?
I’d love good quality American furniture again.

The POTUS should not have this power outside of a legit emergency, like invasion. This is why the House is on recess - the discharge petition actually is likely to pass, just like it did in the Senate.
Yes. But this is why Mike Johnson as Speaker is a tragedy for the nation. The weeniest man in Washington is unlikely to bring such a bill to the floor. Congress reclaiming its authority on tariffs would pass easily, and that makes Little Mikey scared. All he knows is to do the bidding of Trump and Musk. The man has no principles.
That’s why Rep. Meeks filed a discharge petition in the House, so it goes to the floor no matter what.
Also, I didn’t realize this until today but the emergency powers granted to Trump to do all this sh!t were in the CR.
Another reason why Schumer should not have caved. Or maybe he was playing 11D chess, knowing that the admin will touch the hot stove![]()
