Germans need to get over their Green Party dreams, at least in the short-term. They are dreary, wet country without a lot of sunshine. The last thing they should want from a security standpoint is to be dependent on Putin in the middle of the winter.

The country overall gets 136 days of full sun. Hardly a solar powerhouse, even if they are quite adept at building the tech.

This is the only true way to get at Putin. The grand agreement between Putin and the oligarchs are that he allows them to have their money, so long as they give him his cut and they don't stir up domestic political opposition.

Make the lives of the oligarchs - their kids, wives, and mistresses - a living hell. The last thing an oligarch wants to do is be stuck in Russia with his kids and wife. If that happens, Putin will have a mutiny on his hands. If they can't spend money in the West, their lives are miserable.
