A lot of those people have a vested interest in pushing the narrative that covid is nothing special and that we should all welcome death with open arms whenever and however it comes to us. It is disturbing because there’s a gaslighting quality to it.

Yes, some of the posts are disturbing because there is a distinct sense of "welp, what can you do, death by a vaccine-preventable illness amirite?!?" quality to them.

One of my uncle’s relatives through marriage just died from Covid after several weeks on a ventilator. I never met the guy but I knew who he was because he was always commenting on my aunt and uncle’s Facebook posts with super MAGA political stuff. The guy’s own Facebook page is nothing but political memes including anti vaccine stuff. Like PP said, someone who basically became their politics. Now my aunt and uncle are posting the usual “So and so passed away please keep our family in our prayers” type of posts and posting photos of good times together. It must be complicated to grieve the loss of someone who refused to do something that likely would have prevented their death. It’s a bit strange to see people responding to my aunt and uncle’s posts without acknowledging the elephant in the room. I imagine no one will bring it up at his funeral and that if anyone does someone will say “don’t bring politics into this” or something like that.

It’s crazy how the above scenario just keeps playing out over and over and over again in the US. Anyone who won’t get the vaccine at this point probably can’t be convinced. They probably see themselves as soldiers willing to die in a battle for freedom. I have a hard time wrapping my head around it.
