If more federal $$ had been spent on NY, and also on prevention, tens of thousands of people wouldn't be dying in the first place.
Or if China had owned up to it in November and December and then didn't seek to corner the market on supplies, that could have helped tremendously and not just for the US but for the entire world.

Trump administration ending support for 7 Texas testing sites as coronavirus cases spike
President Trump’s administration is ending its support for coronavirus testing sites across the country at the end of the month, including seven in Texas, as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in a number of areas nationwide.
Several Texas officials are calling on the administration to extend the support for the testing sites, with the Houston Health Department’s public health authority writing that the lack of support could cause “catastrophic cascading consequences.” Officials are requesting the funding for these testing locations be extended until August 30.
Four of the seven Texas sites in jeopardy are located in Houston and Harris County, which public experts say could become the area worst hit by COVID-19 in the country.
There is nothing stopping states from using their own budgets to continue testing.
do you hear yourself? You are a monster.
Why? If you are Montana or Colorade, why should your allocation of federal funds be spent on chasing hot spots around the nation? The idea this is a national continental US problem has been revealed to be false. It started with a highly concentrated area in the NE and has moved south and west over time. Those states should now be directing their own efforts at mitigation and response.

Fauci today” When you have those kinds of increases you must implement on the ground. You need the manpower, the systems, the tests to ID, to contact trace and blunt the surge.”
The Dean of Harvard School of Public Health (the best public health department in the world) today was asked what he would do if he was in charge and he said. He would coordinate with state governments to make sure in every state
1). Mandatory mask wearing anytime you are outside your house
2) uniform and clear guidelines about Social Distancing. So for example probably no night clubs etc
3) ramped up testing (5 million a day now and continue to ramp up). He said this was our best shot at detecting outbreaks and understanding how the virus spreads
4) loads of trained contact tracers
5) huge stockpile of PPE
6). All above efforts coordinated by the federal government which would gather and share information and ensure a smooth supply chain of tests, PPE and therapies
None of the above is difficult- heck it is all pretty low tech BUT it is very hard work which means you need a massive whole of government response.
He said that Germany had done this very successfully and so people are able to get back to work.
He said we would never get this under control if we don’t have a uniform and coordinated national approach. He also said that we got discouraged and impatient and that we need leadership to encourage people to stay the course.
This
You don't need a Harvard dean to say this. You can find many posts similar to this. What I don't understand is why the federal government refuses to implement it. Though it's tedious work, the alternative is trillions of dollars and thousands of lives.
