He knew. I thought the scene where Rebecca was on the phone with the hotel, and then with Kate, was masterfully done. You barely even notice the staff rushing out of the frame at first, and the way she kept turning was so natural. And then the candy bar scene. OMG. Mandy Moore is really a wonderful actress. You could just tell she was having an out of body experience, not understanding what the doctor was saying, not registering. Such a powerful scene.
Mandy Moore was really brilliant in this episode.

I've realized that whenever I cry during this show, it's maybe 10 percent what's going on onscreen, and 90 percent of my own crap I'm bringing into it. The hospital scenes (first William, now this) completely gut me because of memories of my mother's last days in the hospital.
