Add to that the financing mechanism that is wholly dependent on its Board member-developers and the whole thing is fishy.
As to the local neighbors, they rightfully pushed back against the 50's style grocery/parking lot and were on a track with Safeway that everyone seemed to be happy with, until Safeway sold the lot.
The GDS proposal is worse for the neighbors because they are getting all of the negatives without any benefits.
Not to mention that this neighborhood already has the largest public high school(1600+), middle school (1300+) and two of the largest elementary schools (almost 700 each) in the city just blocks away -- with all of these students arriving and leaving at the same time. And Murch is about to go from a 400 student building to a 700 student building just across Ft. Reno Park from GDS.
No one in the city government ever seems to look at the big picture.

"Buzz" for the neighborhood? In that the line of cars waiting to get in and out of campus will be buzzing on the streets during rush hour? Or is that the buzz of 1200 kids on a 400 kid campus? What is this buzz you speak of? And the gift, what is the gift? The one the developers are reaping themselves? Of the one the school will be receiving in 40k chunks from the parents each year to pay for it.
Laughable post.

If they're really that urban they should move to Petworth.

Is GDS still a school for troubled students? If so, will the school agree to any restrictions on letting the students out into the neighborhood?
It never was. And the HS already has an open campus policy.
GDS is a school for highly gifted and talented students.
They may have an open campus policy now. Neighbors will use it as a bargaining chip.
All children are highly gifted and talented. My understanding is the GDS took the 'differently' talented.
