I think you and Trump don't seem to understand that killing the head of Iran does nothing to get rid of the current government. They have already named the new leader (and have 10 more, in order, behind him) and he is more conservative and harsher than the one they just killed. The military will be faithful to him, so nothing will change without a protracted ground war. Are you willing to sign up your kids to fight for this?

Were you also friends with Ahmed Chalabi?

Most exiles want to return. How that goes depends a lot on why/how they went into exile. Chalabi’s history may be prophetic here for the former Iranian monarchs.

I’d love to see an Iran free of religious militancy and inclusive of women and all religions in every phase of life. Not sure taking out this ayatollah and a few others will achieve that. If anything, the ayatollahs’ powers have slipped in recent years while those held by the IRGC have increased. Also, the Iranians have engineered their government/departments down 4 levels so if an agency head is taken out, there is a clear succession plan to remain on mission.

Here we are, less than 25 years later, and there is another GOP admin, really MAGA, going to war with even less justification than Bush2/Cheney. That war was an utter disaster even if in the early days some may still have believed Cheney’s claim that we will be “greeted as liberators.”
