Well Republicans are in control of everything- house, congress, presidency and courts. Why are the republicans not to blame? This is like saying the voters in the US are not responsible for Trump,
The American electorate is absolutely responsible for the garbage leadership we've had since Obama left office. Each and everyone of us needs to stop the finger pointing, take a long look in the mirror, and promise to take our voting privileges more seriously going forward.
There's zero correlation between what voters want and what our representatives actually make happen. Study after study shows this. The correlation exists only for donors. Our government has not belonged to We the People for a long time.
Voting didn't cause this, money in our politics caused this. Capitalism and the ruthless pursuit of profits caused this. And it won't get better until we as a society decide 1) that there are things more important than money, and 2) that the money hungry sociopaths currently running our society must be stopped. Until we can all agree on those 2 points, things will continue to spiral downward.
I wholeheartedly agree for the most part. The influence of money in politics to the extent that our two major political parties are essentially corrupt entities is the number one long term problem the American people must deal with.
I do think it's possible for a capitalistic society to co-exist with a functional democracy. Money has always had influence in politics but our two-party system still functioned at an acceptable level for 200 years.
Votes didn't cause this but votes are likely the only solution to this problem. At some point, we'll have to stop rewarding GOP and Dem politicians with votes. Votes for politicians are profitable to political parties in a similar way likes or subscribers are to a social media influencer. The more votes a party or politician can reliably obtain, the more mega-donor cash can be relied upon. The more subscribers an influencer has, the greater the likelihood of advertising dollars. If we cut off the votes for a period of time, there will be a quick end to the billions of dollars wealthy and powerful people funnel through our rotten parties to buy influence. Yes, I realize convincing the moronic American electorate to stop voting for GOP and Dem politicians in order to save our democracy is easier said than done. I'm all ears if you have a better suggestion.
