Clubs are rarely ‘standing still’. They are expanding and growing or contracting and shrinking. Having a pathway is probably less about the actual nuts and bolts of what it entails and more about being a club that leagues want, clubs want to partner with and players want to play for. 7-8 years ago, CYA had 3-5 teams across age groups and was a partner w/ VSA and PWSI in VDA. Now they have merged w/ a slightly smaller club in SYA, and the merged club is smaller than they were, and it doesn’t seem like it is getting better anytime soon.

This is a really well thought out point! You articulated why it’s important for a club to seek meaningful partnerships and expand. I’ve been saying these decisions are going to lead the club to irrelevancy and perhaps nothing more than a rec club à la CYA.

CYA and SYA are now partnered with Valor for travel.
CYA travel + SYA travel = Valor. It's a merger not a partnership. If anything you could say Valor is partnered with Herndon, VYS, BRYC, etc to feed into FVU (even though we all know that's not really how it works). I don't know whether VSA and PWSI are true feeders to VDA or if VDA just takes the best players who try out regardless of where they came from. I suspect the latter.
Right, and the point of bringing up CYA is that it is a quarter of what it once was, at the travel soccer level. GFR seems to be on the same glide path.

which is probably why she resigned. she did more work than the TD for sure.
