I haven’t read this whole thread, but I feel the complete opposite of the thread title. I feel HOPEFUL. Very soon we will have our President Trump back in the White House!! Just saw the classified docs case was dismissed. Plus the Supreme Court ruling. Plus the Democratic infighting. And a very strong Republican lineup for the Convention this week while the Dems have literally no one. It keeps getting better and better. I have been walking around all day with a stupid grin on my face!

What are you talking about? Dems HAVE been crushing elections since 2018. There’s a huge disinformation campaign trying to get people not to believe their eyes. Polls don’t vote, people do. If you are “sad” then do something. This isn’t on politicians to save our democracy, it’s on all of us.

Would think my mind 20s daughter's friend would worry about reproductive rights. But they don't care. Nobody is concerned in the least about Project 2025. Biden is such a bad candidate that they will either not vote, nor worry about Trump.

PP you replied to. Realistically, no, it won't do "untold damage". It won't be pleasant, particularly for hated minorities like Arabs and Muslims, and women will have more difficult time seeking reproductive healthcare, that's for sure. Immigrants will get the short end of the stick, international policy will be all over the place, because there won't be a policy, just Trump's whim.

But no, there won't be a dictatorship for life, concentration camps, death penalty for women who miscarry or abort.

So we'll weather it if we have to.

I agree that it would be so much better if Democrats could see their way to being more ruthless with Biden.


Not PP but I don’t think anyone really knows what will happen. The somewhat sane grown-ups who joined the Trump administration the first time around are unlikely to come back. Who is going to be calling the shots or reigning him from starting a new war? I also worry because we have family in Eastern Europe and Putin is likely to be emboldened to expand his campaign due to Trump’s complete disinterest in NATO.

I think Dems thought the threat to abortuon and women’s health care in general would be enough type galvanize voters this election, but it clearly isn’t. I don’t know how much further we will have to fall before it does.


PP you replied to. I hear you on all of that. DH and I are western Europeans, so not as concerned as those in Eastern Europe, but still concerned for the future of NATO and the possibility of a land war.

We'll just have to deal with the uncertainty, I'm afraid.
