Except the DACA kids did not break the law. Their parents did.

And that means they get benefits American citizens don't get, because?

Which benefits are those?

In state tuition in Massachusetts.

American citizens don't get in state tuition in MA? Like no American citizen gets it?

Most of them don't. Only the ones who are MA residents do. That's a very small number, and it does not include PP. Or my kids, either.

Your and PP's kids still won't get in state tuition in MA if DACA kids get deported.

Better chance.

Unless you are another educated elite that thinks money grows On trees

Let me blow your mind: DACA students who live in MA are MA residents! Your children are not MA residents.

Let me blow YOUR mind. They are ILLEGAL residents.

All trump needs to do is wait and schumer will have to cave. After all most of those furloughed bureaucrats are democrats. Schumer needs to cut a deal with McConnell that will get 60 and trump will sign it. Trump needs to do no heavy lifting on this at all. He can just wait until the dems cave. They will.

Schumer needs to cut a deal with McConnell?? No. Try again. McConnell doesn’t even have all the Rs in his corner.

Schumer and the Ds *had* agreed on a compromise, on DACA and on CHIP, and Rs agreed. Trump himself agreed and in the next breath changed his mind.

Now it is coming out that Schumer et al even agreed to funding toward a wall if given their DACA requests. Trump apparently turned that down. Trump may not have to do the heavy lifting but he is creating the heavy lifting headache for the GOP Congress.

If Schumer had 60 votes he would have said that. Schumer had nothing except his own hot air. Now he has painted himself into a corner and doesn't know how to get out of it. Neither Trump nor McConnell have any reason to save Schumer from himself. Remember-Republicans care much less than democrats if federal bureaucrats are furloughed and federal agencies are in limbo.

That's why this is going to drag on for weeks.

It's not hard. They already have that until March. The democrats are unprincipled. If they insist on shutting down over DACA they should proudly take credit for their principled stand.

Because our system is broken and cannot properly address issues with any nuance.

However, American citizens do get in-state tuition at some state schools, just not the ones where they are not residents.

Let me be more specific. Gov. Deval Patrick declared DACA could have in-state tuition, because, DACA. However, those folk who actually pay real estate taxes in the state because they own property in the state do NOT get in-state tuition. This is not a broken system. This is deliberately excluding MA taxpayers from benefits that illegals get. Both people pay MA taxes - only ONE gets in-state tuition BECAUSE they are illegal. Got it?

Yep, they made the issue: they broke DACA, they didn't fund CHIP; despite promises, the GOP owns this.

Awwwww....are we "punishing" illegal immigrants by not giving into the demands for amnesty? They have had the benefit of K-12 education, paid for by American taxpayers, and have been allowed to remain here thanks to our generosity. So how do they show their appreciation? By shouting profanity-laced demands at a high-ranking Congressperson (who is in their side)!

No....I feel that we should not be punishing law-abiding workers by cutting off their paychecks. The fact that the D's are holding the government hostage over these DACA kids is shameful. They, and apparently you, have more sympathy for them than they do for the hundreds of thousands of employees who will have financial hardship as a result. (I noticed you didn't say anything about punishing Americans.)

The Democrats simply want status quo: toddlers keep their health insurance, health centers don't lose funding, disaster areas restored, kids don't get deported. Why is that hard?

Even wolf blitzer just contradicted Richard blumenthals false contention that the republicans are responsible for the impasse.

When the dems have even lost CNN, you know they're in trouble.

They are saying it is, at least in part due to DACA. What are you reading? Or are you talking about DCUM Democrats? Trump is *owed* the blame — there was literally a compromise on every element of this until he flip flopped on multiple components/agreements. That said, Trump is not the reason the Dems voted against it, that’s the reason the *Rs* voted against it.

BS. The bill has everything the Dems want in it. They are just insistent that DACA be included, when there is no DACA bill ready, nor is the deadline for DACA close, nor does DACA have anything to do with this funding bill. The Dems are taking #resistance to a new level. And, Schumer is not being honest about the discussion he had with Trump. He is making himself look like the good guy, when he is anything but...........

Schumer definitely manufactured this crisis. I suspect he wanted to throw a wrench in the works, deflect from all the positive economic good news, and bring more negative press (that's not hard to do) onto Trump.

DACA should NEVER have been part of a government funding bill.

Exactly.

But the media will posit this as the Rs fault. The fact is that there is nothing in the bill that D's disagree with. They just realized they could use the livelihoods of nearly 1 million innocent Americans (I'm not a fed, so not personally impacted) to squeeze out benefits for DACA kids. It's simply proving what people have been complaining about - that liberals care more about illegal immigrants than the welfare of American citizens.

And, the fact that 5 Democrats voted for the CR shows that this is a Democratic failure. The media fails to mention that.

It shows the exact opposite. There are Rs that voted against it, because they are tired of the fact that they don’t know where Trump, the spinning top, is going to land next, and that environment doesn’t facilitate any kind of decent negotiation.

That's not how it works. Republicans only have 45 votes of their own anyway. Schumer doesn't need McConnell's votes, McConnell needs some of the Democratic caucus. Unfortunately, McConnell takes his marching orders from Trump and nobody other than maybe Hope Hicks knows what he wants other than chocolate cake.
