I hope he sues the crap out of them -- and I'm not really a proponent of litigation.

Lots of people have "ethnic" last names due to marriage who are not that minority, and vice versa.

United messed up in this situatino in many ways, but I really doubt they are targeting Asians as part of some master plan to discriminate.

Unfortunately for United, many people in Asia don't see it that way now.

Foreign carriers make up 2/3 of the service from the Far East to the US:

So United doesn't have much to lose.

Also, their stock is up today to where it was before the incident:

How quickly people forget...

United invested in flights to large cities in China seeing it as a growth market. This will be a problem for them. Mark my words, their earnings will fall this year and their stock will suffer when earning results come out next quarter.

Don't even get me started over the fawning all over him when he holds our daughter so I can get a bathroom break. "Oh what a great daddy!" He's a good guy but let's cut it with the handing out medals for taking care of his own child for a total of 4.17% of the flight.

Man here. I'm not surprised by this but it's not limited to air travel. I work weird hours so I'm usually out with my DDs (2 and 4) on weekday afternoons, when it's pretty rare to see fathers out. The amount of accommodations I get is amazing. People let us jump the line at the grocery store; tell me what a good job I'm doing. I even had the post office re-open their doors at 4:59pm so we could enter and mail a package.

When I was in my 20s, I noticed young women my age got lots of accommodations, so I guess it evens out in the end.

+1,000,000 This smear campaign is against him is shameful! It definitely has nothing to do with the incident. The recent news actually said that they volunteered to be off at first but when they found out that they won't be home until the following day, he backed out and that's when he said he has patients to see the following day. The witnesses said he was calm when he talked to the flight attendant about the situation, the ruckus only started when they yanked him out( which would be understandable). It was actually the attendant who sounded annoyed( according to passengers). Point is... Deliberately yanking out a boarded passenger just because he did not agree top be volunteered by United is NOT the only option to be someone off the plane. Bottom line-United acted like thugs because they thought they can do so, just because they know that on the fine print of the passenger agreement, it says that you can be bumped. Funny thing is, the CEO's attitude just confirmed that this is their Company culture.

Even worse is that they did not even get the info right. This gentleman and the doctor with the past are two different doctors with similar names.

I was once booked to fly back to my home country first class (someone else was paying), and the airline called the day before wanting to downgrade me. I said "no" and they tried to rebook me for another day. I said "no" as I was quite keen to get back for my wedding. This kind of rearranging has never happened to my husband.

Other times they have tried to move me around the plane, separate me from my husband and kids (I have a different surname), or have transferred me to a non-direct flight going from BWI instead a direct one from IAD. Once, a foreign airline tried to take away my prebooked bulkhead seat (with a bassinet for my baby) to give it to the wife & baby of someone traveling in business class. It turned out to be a work colleague and family who had tried to bump me.

At airports, they often seem to target me for extra groping to meet their daily quota, I think because they think as a middle aged woman, that I will be "nice".

My husband, who travels for business a lot, confirmed my theory saying that he has observed airlines messing with his female colleagues' flight/seating arrangements, more so than with the men's.

I second (or third) your theory.

Agree. My DH has a minor mobility impairment that means he travels with a cane. When we fly, I take care of everything including all of our luggage (including all carryons) and our infant, he only has to get himself to his seat. He regularly gets amazing service from everyone at the airports and airlines whereas I get treated like crap or like I'm invisible.

Don't even get me started over the fawning all over him when he holds our daughter so I can get a bathroom break. "Oh what a great daddy!" Agreed. Keep dreaming, United shill. This is no where close to the end of the story.

+1. They just expect women to go along with whatever suggested and show less resistance. May be this is what happened here too.
