It's not just DCUM, this is being discussed all over the Internet. Nothing special about DCUM.
I just can't believe people here care what he sings.
You think we are different than everyone else? People are talking about the singer and the song all over the world. I know a lot of folks think we live in a bubble, but DCUM is not hermetically sealed off from the rest of the world.

He's a pretty thoughtful guy and comes across as quite intelligent.
I wonder if the many liberals bashing Oliver in the above posts would like to retract some of their comments after listening to him speak?
Why not ask the Republicans who have identified with the song whether they should retract their comments given his explicit statement that he doesn't like conservatives identifying with the song? I listened to the entire interview. I'll agree that he comes off as thoughtful but, if anything, he reinforces the view that he is not all that articulate. Just like many of his supporters here, he claims he didn't mean what his lyrics clearly say. Take the lines:
Well, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds
Three mentions of "you're" or "your" which clearly suggests these lines are addressing short, fat people who use food stamps to buy junk food. In the interview, he says, again as his supporters here have argued, that he is criticizing the system that encourages this outcome. Perhaps he couldn't figure to a way to rhyme "The system shouldn't encourage, people to buy junk food, being healthy is important, as is a low BMI" but he has expressed himself poorly. He needs to accept responsibility for that rather than blaming people who assumed that he meant what he wrote.
