On the flip side, the AC/DC’s fast support for Cristina was sufficiently eye-popping to get me involved in local politics again! So maybe it increases engagement? It’s outrageous that the democrats are pushing a candidate for school board with almost zero ties to our community and virtually no personal experience in APS as a parent or educator. I can finds flaws in all of the other candidates, but at least they have legitimate experience within the system that qualifies them as a voice of the community. Also, the use of the caucus to edge out Symone is pretty gross. She’s a woman of color with kids in APS with learning differences. How is it the dems aren’t falling all over themselves to make her part of our school board? It’s because they’re looking at a national agenda not at local needs. The AC/DC needs to stand down a bit or risk losing its hold.

If you listened to the Dems SB debate, the ACDC chair, Jill, was falling all over herself praising Symone. It was almost like she was encouraging people to vote for Symone -- and, from what I heard, it pissed off some of the old line Dems. Especially since it seemed obvious that Symone was playing the victim card once she got caught violating the Hatch Act, something that a federal government lawyer for 20 years knew or should have known all about.

Thought Sandy would have had that one locked up.

Cristina was hand-picked by the AC/DC. The AEA doesn’t endorse even mildly controversial candidates, always the incumbent. They endorsed Lander in 2017.

Very interesting, thank you! I still would have pegged Sandy as the least controversial candidate out there and, coupled with her extensive educational background, she seemed a very logical choice to get the endorsement. I think she's pretty much a lock to get one of the SB seats.

I do not believe Sandy could be considered even mildly controversial. Wasn't she an AEA member? Perhaps she doesn't support collective bargaining for teachers?

I didn’t mean to say controversial in her positions, but she’s not a lock to win one of the two spots. I think the AEA is pretty sure Cristina is a lock, given her support from much higher up in the Dem party, even outside Arlington (for reasons that have nothing to do with our local SB). They endorse the presumptive winner, so they don’t make an enemy.

Now, I'm interested! Which big-name Dems are supporting her? Did she cozy up to Pelosi while interning in the house? I wouldn't be opposed to Arlington receiving more federal dollars for education

I swear her early promo stuff described 10 yrs experience, but I can't find it, so she maybe dropped it.

I also swear there was something she said or implied about her work on issues after 9/11, but based on these dates she would have been in middle school. Did she host a bake sale for first responders???

I think AEA botched it if they think Cristina is a lock.

Probably dropped it because people called her out on her lies. Like how she helped frame ESSA....from her HS classroom? Or implement Policy....as an intern in the house?

Her Facebook says she is 29 years old. She must look great if you confused her for someone in her mid-twenties! I was a Pete supporter. I like well-informed young people who think that things can be better. So I won't hold her age against her, but I'm still going to read through her site before I make a choice.

Has anyone received a mailer from any candidates?

I think people like her because she isn't Steven, Terron, or Symone and she seems to know a lot about education despite her age. How old is she? I still like Sandy. I'm weighing between David and Cristina for my second choice. He has lived here forever but doesn't seem to have learned much since his last run. She's been here for just a few years but seems to impress people, like the teachers and Dems.

And only Cristina. I've not been as impressed by Sandy as are others on here, but I am surprised they didn't endorse her too. Cristina is young and less experienced than others, but the experience she has impressed the teachers. And I think she has the best information online. I'm going with Cristina, Sandy, and Terron for my top three.

I'm a teacher and parent. My husband and I always vote for the AEA endorsed candidates. I'll likely choose Sandy or David as my second choice.
