I’m not seeing how discussing the fact that he may have an issue getting support from Trump’s hard core followers and saying well we should point out to them that Trump endorsed me and their other option is a left wing liberal is “touting” or disingenuous in any way. It’s a pragmatic statement.
Correct. It's a pragmatic statement that, despite everything he says, the reality is that he will fall in line with all the other Republicans. Perhaps - like Susan Collins - he might deplore a bit, before he votes with them.![]()
I’m not seeing how that equates to he will fall in line with all the other Republicans, but you see what you want to see 🙄
He's said he will caucus with republicans. The most important vote that a senator makes is for majority leader. 90% of the rest is posturing because all that matters is that party that controls the senate controls the agenda.
FFS get yourself off of rote talking points and actually keep up with the thread of conversation if you feel you need to add to it. We were talking specifically about the call to donors reported by CNN.
DP. That's what I'm talking about. The call to donors, reported by CNN, where he cited Trump's endorsement, which he has not rejected, as a reason why Trump supporters will vote for him.
To the non-Trump voters, he's saying: it's ok to vote for me, I will be independent!
To the Trump voters, he's saying: it's ok to vote for me, Trump has endorsed me!
Which should we believe? They can't both be true.
This is where you are lacking critical thinking. Telling Trumps most hard core Maryland supporters (which is a pretty small number) listen, me and your guy don’t like or agree with each other, but he endorsed me because I’m way better than the alternative so perhaps you should consider supporting me, does not equate to telling those voters once I get to the Senate I’m going full MAGA.
If Hogan thinks he's ever going to be free to deviate from MAGA if he's in the Senate, he has not been paying attention for the past 8 years.
Yep, here’s how it works: They will allow Hogan to deviate from MAGA orthodoxy if his vote is not needed. If Hogan’s vote *is* needed, however, he will do as he is told. Hogan will provide the decisive vote for Trump’s SC nominees and he will never ever give Democrats the 51st vote needed to block Trump’s SC nominees. There is no chance that Harris and Hogan will both win.
This person pays absolutely no attention to Republican politics. All that you have to do is look at Trump's administration where a number of Republicans regularly thwarted his agenda... Romney, Murkowski, etc. If you look at Supreme Court nominees, you will also see that Romney, Murkowski and Collins all voted for Ketanji Brown Jackson. Hogan would be no different because he knows that he would not be re-elected.
Most MAGA would consider Hogan to be part of the same RINO club (even if they would vote for him over Alsobrooks.)

I actually think if Trump loses there is a future for him. Most of Trump’s MAGA candidates failed (see the “red wave” that never materialized), so even if Alsobrooks wins, I hope there is a place for him. If Harris is serious about wanting moderate Republicans to have a seat at the table, he should be on her short list for some post.
He talks about “country over party” but can’t even bring himself to vote for her so that tells me he isn’t serious about it and he certainly doesn’t belong in a Harris administration.
And what accomplishments does he even have? That he torqued state spending on transportation away from blue areas towards property he owned.

He wants to run for President
I hope he does because I would gladly vote for him then too.

Because earlier in the campaign when talking to Marylanders in public he said he didn’t want and wouldn’t accept Trump’s endorsement. Now in private he is bragging about he has Trump’s endorsement.
It’s emblematic of how his whole campaign is a deceptive attempt to appear moderate when really he is just another member of Trump’s party.
