Its perhaps the oldest talking point in the world, and I bring it up as often as I feel like I can get away with it. This conflict is fundamentally spiritual in nature, and people need to realize that.

^ I think Putin truly expected it to be easy to just roll in and take all of Ukraine in a few weeks. I think he feels his age and knows that Russia had become almost insignificant globally speaking and he wanted to be known for something. So he tried to be some great conquerer. Instead, this has been a huge embarrassment for Putin and Russia as a whole. Russia has become globally irrelevant in almost every way. The only reason they have any significance at all is the they still have some nukes. That’s it.

Russia's decision to invade Ukraine remains absolutely baffling. They have 12 time zones of land and a declining population. It's the last country on Earth that needs to expand. They have effectively unlimited natural resources. They had an extremely lucrative market for their energy in Europe. If they had chosen it, they could have had a quality of life that's similar to Norway.

Instead they invaded Ukraine. We have all seen the atrocities they committed in Bucha and Mariupol. We've seen Russians absolutely destroy every place they've attacked - from Bakhmut to Adviivka. There's nothing left. The've suffered roughly 600,000 casualties, which is staggering and more than three times what Americans lost over 15 years in Vietnam. Their Black Sea fleet is destroyed. They've lost more than 8000 tanks and countless artillery pieces and personnel carriers. Not to mention planes and helicopters. And now Ukraine has taken more land in Russia in two short weeks than Russia has been able to gain in more than a year of brutal meat assaults on the eastern front. Russia has lost its most lucrative market forever as Europe has moved on. And besides some regimes in Africa, they are internationally isolated. They can't even compete in the Olympics anymore.

And for what? There is no possible good outcome for Russians. They are destined to remain a nation of poor, illiterate peasants ruled by a vile mafia. It's pathetic.
