Family trip to LA, San Diego, and Santa Barbara over spring break. Flying. All pretty young (DH is oldest at 45) - family trip. DS was gonna check out the UCs but I would imagine they may cancel tours. We were considering Universal but that seems like a bad idea. Should we still go? Airfare isn’t refundable but hotel is

It's a few days of work conference (but one I very highly anticipated and look forward to ) and a couple of days of fun with DH who's coming along. The main issue is that our child (12) will be staying home in DC with grandparents so if we get stuck quarantined somewhere it would be a big strain on them. I am leaning toward canceling (and losing a bunch of $$...).

If traveling by air domestically and/or to countries not on the hotspot list is dangerous (and, thefore, selfish) why doesn't our government step up and say so? Dr. Fauci, who seems to be the most honest, straightforward government official in this fiasco, has warned older Americans and those with underlying medical conditions to limit travel and stay away from crowded venues. Therefore, those of us not in those categories assume that it's perfectly ok for us to travel.

What would that matter?
Maybe people would think twice before hopping onto a flight to Paris or Rome or Seattle if they realized their neighbor, someone in the county, or state just came back with the condition they think they can 'avoid'. Especially with spring break only weeks away.
These alerts are going out on the emergency notification systems county, city, and state-wide. But no travel information at the very least doesn't tell people to be more cautionary.
The less people getting on a plane in this area, the less chance of them passing on the virus to others in the community.
Right. Friend of mine thinks she's safe because she went to Switzerland. Except trains are running between Milan and Geneva.

Exactly. Shows how much certain people will twist themselves into pretzels to justify their vacations. To the moron PP -- it's about limiting exposure. Sure NO exposure would be best, but most people HAVE to go to work (until/unless it's called off or switched to telework) and HAVE to find some way to get food. They don't HAVE to go on vacation. The more exposure and points of the contact, the more chance of getting it and once you have it - spread is inevitable. So why not inconvenience yourself this one time and limit your exposure.
