Well the dog survived the smoke and he was in there the same time as Jack

It’s implied the extra time killed him.

If This is Us is going to regularly be visiting the future it could have many more seasons ahead.

I'm the above PP and I know this was a sad episode, but I burst out laughing when Beth said that. I even had to rewind to hear it again. Too funny!! And yes to Mandy Moore. So impressive and believable.

I also loved the Tess twist. I think it would have been even better if older Randall hadn't said, "Hi, Tess." We all knew it was her without him saying that. Great scene though. That little boy was so adorable.

Did you see the scene where Randall was talking to young Tess and joking about her having to live at home until she was 25 and then he would come to her "fancy office" and they would have lunch once a week? He was describing that whole scene.

Agreed PP. I couldn't stop crying. I was thinking that Randall and Beth were going to receive a call requesting to foster that little boy...never even thinking that it was the future.

I absolutely love how they play with time and keep us all guessing. That little boy got the family he was supposed to be with, and apparently Deja is supposed to be with the Pearsons.

I've been thinking about the episode a lot... is anyone a little disappointed that the writers DID NOT pull something out of their hat, a random, surprising kind of twist? It ended up being the dog, and the smoke inhalation, which DCUM had pretty much figured out. Anyway, love the show and how it's making me appreciate my family, and each day, more.

Me too. My dad died 20 years ago, but I was older than the Pearson kids.

My dad too. And I was in my early 20's.

He knew. I thought the scene where Rebecca was on the phone with the hotel, and then with Kate, was masterfully done. You barely even notice the staff rushing out of the frame at first, and the way she kept turning was so natural. And then the candy bar scene. OMG. Mandy Moore is really a wonderful actress. You could just tell she was having an out of body experience, not understanding what the doctor was saying, not registering. Such a powerful scene.

Yes!! As usual, it was a beautifully constructed episode, where everything fits together at the end and there was a little surprise. I love that they do that. So well done.

The 15-year anniversary of my mom's death was just a few days ago. I was a mess after last night's episode.
