You're being too kind. I think climbing pool fences and trespassing are seem more like assholish behavior-which is exactly what you can expect from groups of teens and college kids.

As used in my context, I think empowered is the right word. Gone are the days when Blacks have to move into the street to let Whites pass on the sidewalk, avert their eyes when they talk to them and place their money on the counter so their hands don't touch. This generation of black children have likely never heard of-much less experience- such things. So when you throw a racially charged insult and then slap them, expect a response.

Miss Piggy deserves to lose her job. You cannot be broadcast all over the news in a videotape fighting a young girl in the middle of the street like a classless hoodlum and expect to be able to continue to represent a business. There's no reason Miss Piggy should've never lowered herself to the age of someone 5 minutes out of HS to engage in such a conflist. Disgusting and outrageous. I hope she is fired. As suspected, the cowardly racist deleted her post. I'd respect her more if she left it up and owned it.

She has been fired. I am not sure that these repeated social media mobs that get people fired are a good thing. I am a pretty firm believer in the right to be an asshole from time to time. She deserves all the criticism in the world and maybe some assigned research on racial segregation, but firing for a Facebook post seems a bit much.

I guess...but the question then becomes whether she can be an effective teacher after this. Can't think that an AA parent would want their kids assigned to her after this. Also might raise scrutiny about her interaction with prior AA students. Her statement made her a liability for that school district. Not every district has the stomach to ride this out with her.

I guess the lesson is that social media is not really private and once you post - it is out there. It is a shame because that is something we all tell our kids, but some adults have missed the memo.

Here is a little tidbit to tell your kids. If they run out the back door to a party, cops are usually standing in the back yard waiting, 1 or 2 go in the front, they know the kids will run out the back, they will be taken to the ground, the ones they can catch... a few do get away. They have already written down all the license plate number of all the cars near the party, they also are going to pull you over if you drive away.

If they came back repeatedly mouthing off? Yes. Who knows if the next time they came back, what they would do?

It is not clear who was first on the scene. They were being handcuffed, which is different than being arrested. Often kids are handcuffed because they are stupid, they will try to leave or move their hands in a way that threatens the officer. Officers are instructed to handcuff them and say, "you are not under arrest, I am handcuffing you for your safety and mine.

Not that this party had drugs and alcohol, but often teens do have drugs and alcohol. If police just let them all get in a car and drive away there is a threat to the community, they could kill somebody then everybody will wonder why the cops let the kids drive.

Usually, parents are called, names are taken, they are given some sort of citation and asked to appear in court and do classes if there are drug and alcohol involved or community service (like Teen court).

Police breaking up teenage parties is a pretty common occurrence.

Tackling them and arresting them when they run is pretty common too.

In my experience, that is pretty uncommon. Were you ever at parties broken up by the police? Did any kids ever get tackled?

If the kids were not out of control, the security officer could have told them it was a private pool, they needed passes to get in, and to please leave if they didn't have one - and they would have. He was quickly overwhelmed and called to police to help.

Not a expert in criminal law in TX but trespassing is a Class A/B/C misdemeanor. The worst being <$4000 fine and up to 1 year in jail, the lesser being up to a $500 fine.

I am not sure if the "whole incident" is because a cop got out of control, the "whole incident" was a badly planned party, kids probably would have been arrested for trespassing if there was no video but all the kids were let go because of the video. The kids should probably thank the police officer for getting out of control, because the department had to "clean it up" by letting the kids go.

It doesn't appear that any of the kids were being arrested prior to the out-of-control cop getting involved. The police were simply dispersing the crowd. It is ironic that the kids are being blamed for both running from the cops and not leaving when told to leave.
