For CPS to take the children away, CPS would have to decide that it's in the best interests of the children to live in foster care instead of with their parents -- right? Do you think it would be in the best interests of the children to live in foster care instead of with their parents?

In that case, 15 isn't old enough to babysit either. In fact, a 15-year-old needs a babysitter. Wow, is this getting complicated.
A 15 year old doesn't need a babysitter but does better when involved in adult supervised after school activities. Kids who are home unsupervised for hours after school every day are more likely to get involved with drugs or alcohol or get pregnant. Kids do better when they have adults who are actively involved in their lives.

If my kids were missing for even 15 minutes I would have been frantically looking for them and flagged down the cop i saw on the way to the park they were playing at...
Maybe the parents did go looking, saw the kids with the police, knew they were safe, and decided to let this whole thing play out for maximum media coverage...

Seems like anything else is better than the 2 parents they have now.

Nope. The parents could have reasonably forseen this might happen after last time. I don't disagree with their parenting philosophy, but they need to fight their own fight and not use their kids as pawns in their adult agenda.
I don't think that anybody could have reasonably foreseen that the police would stop the kids and take them into custody for 6 hours, without even telling the parents where they were.
There were already told this exact thing (walking home alone) was NOT okay. Thick headed much?

Totally agree. Sunday was a beautiful day. It was a real family day for us. We went to see the cherry blossoms and enjoyed a playground and scootering and lunch. We didn't just ditch the kids at a playground. I enjoy watching my kids play.
I can't get over the assumption that the only reason you'd let your children go somewhere by themselves is that you hate spending time with them.
