Wake up, this isn’t 1995 any more. Korean is not an obscure language, especially around here, and especially now with Korea becoming dominant. When Skyview is running at full capacity it would make sense that Korean be one of the languages offered.

No dog in this hunt. However, Korean is the FLES at Floris according to fcps website.

Oak Hill has Chinese.

Spanish, French, Japanese, and I think Korean. At least, those were the ones that were mentioned at the meetings. Fox Mill brings Japanese with Japanese Immersion. I think Westfield has Japanese as well. I am not sure where the Korean comes from, maybe Centreville so that might change as the schools with Korean might not be at Skyview.

Interesting. One of my kids attended the Chantilly academy for Korean, so maybe from Chantilly. Yes Westfield also has Japanese so there is a lot of interest in Japanese from Westfield as well as Fox Mill.
I’m so excited for Skyview, I only wish this had happened sooner so my kid could have attended.

Just because a school sending kids to Skyview offers a course doesn’t mean Skyview will be able to offer it. You all are acting like it’s going to be some restaurant with a 50-page menu when it’s going to be a small school with more limited items.

I’m going by what PP said.
Japanese is a certainty. It may not be common overall but with Fox Mill and other RCMS kids coming in, it makes sense.

With so few students and only 9th-10th, I imagine very few, with 32 student per class staffing formulas.

Don't be surprised if they relax the normal requirements where Skyview is concerned. Reid wants it to get positive publicity.

If they have the financial ability to do that, they should lower the staffing formula for Westfield as well since they are emptying out all the students.

Nah. That would be a permanent high cost, as opposed to Skyview where adjusted formulas will only be needed for a year or two.

My rising 9th grader is hoping to get AP Human Geography. They will have the classes that enough kids ask for. I would assume AP Bio and AP World History for the 10th graders. Probably AP Comp Sci Principles.

They have said all along that they will have the classes that there is enough interest for so it will depend on what the kids signed up for and how many did signed up for a particular class.

Sophomores have to take chemistry.

And, this is true in any school. And, sometimes classes get cancelled over the summer.

It is true everywhere.

Why does this shock you? She's been in it for herself since Day One.

Don't bet on it. Neither Westfield nor any of the other existing schools whose enrollments will drop due to boundary changes are of much interest to Reid. Not enough 22nd Century learning is taking place at these schools.
