! Morton's was my mother's favorite store. I hated that place. I used to be embarrassed to get clothes from there. My grandmother would take me shopping at Hecht's and Garfinkel's. My mother used to say, "Garfinkel's cost an arm and a leg."

"The Quality Meat People" - as an English major and vegetarian, this phrase that was emblazoned on uniforms, trucks and store signage gives me pause. Hmm. Yes, I understand that corporate was trying to convey that Giant was the store where quality meat was sold but the more you think about it, funny to think that the people themselves were essentially made of quality meat.
Meat People would be an excellent name for a punk rock band.

I remember the long lines at Armands Pizza in the early 1980's. Then if you didn't want to stand in the long line, you could go next door to Maggies Pizza. I had Armands not so long ago and wondered what all the fuss was.
