Good God. No one is saying it NEVER happens. What everyone is saying, and this is backed up by data, is that it is an extremely small number of people that have committed voter fraud, something like 40 people in a 25 year period (and hundreds of millions of votes). Not enough to change the outcome of any election.

John Cornyn all excited to ditch the filibuster to pass a bill when he has no idea what’s in it.

Is our hope then a court injunction before the midterms?

I'm shocked the number is so low! Trump has claimed that there have been millions of illegal votes by noncitizens or "illegals."

Do you habe any idea how many people there are in the US? These one off cases WHERE THE PERSON GOT CAUGHT do not demonstrate a widespread problem. They demonstrate that this is incredibly rare, a rounding error, and that the system to prevent it works SINCE THEY GOT CAUGHT. You absolute muppets.

The loss of mailed ballots will be a huge blow to the elderly and disabled. I can’t believe they’d do away with it.

This is NOT a simple voter ID law. it's a full restructuring of how Americans register to vote.

breakdown from your Legalmiga®:

to register to vote, you'd need to show up in person with:
📄 passport
📄 birth certificate + photo ID
📄 naturalization papers

REAL IDs? ❌
military IDs? ❌
online, mail, and DMV registration? all gone.

140 million Americans don't have a passport.

up to 69 million women have name mismatches on their birth certificates.

in some rural counties, getting to an election office is a 7–8 hour round trip.

utah reviewed 2.1 million voter registrations looking for noncitizens.

they found ZERO confirmed cases of noncitizen voting.

zero. the bill's own senate sponsor, Mike Lee, is from Utah.

his state's data blows up the entire premise of this bill.

here's what's actually happening in the senate right now:

to pass a bill, you need 60 votes.
republicans only have 53. democrats won't budge.

trump and MAGA wanted a "talking filibuster" ... force democrats to stand on the floor and talk nonstop to block it. idea is they'd run out of steam.

Thune said no. not enough support, could tie up the senate for months, no guarantee it works.

straight 60-vote threshold next week...it is expected to fail.

so what problem is this actually solving?

none.

here's my lawyer take: this bill would disenfranchise millions, overwhelm election offices, and punish eligible voters (especially women, working-class folks, and rural Americans) while fixing a problem that data shows doesn't exist.

call your senators now. the vote is next week.

Senators that vote for this would be disenfranchising lots of voters from both parties. I'm sure people in their own families, neighborhoods, communities, and states. Grow up senators. Sometimes the Dems win elections and sometimes the GOP wins. Deal with it instead of acting like un-american spoiled brats. Shame on any senator that votes for this horrible bill.
