I disagree there are no real plot lines. Because of the conceit of the show (that each episode is just one hour in the timeline), they introduce the beginning of several storylines that I'm interested to see evolve. The ones I'm most interested in:
- Robby and Langdon finally talking. Robby is avoiding Langdon, Langdon is currently engaged in making amends and likely seeking Robby out. Also curious to see Langdon and Santos interact finally.
- The little girl with the signs of abuse. I like the vibe between Santos and Perlah in working on the case (and looking forward to seeing a bit more of Perlah this season) and can see several predictable directions this could go in, but think the writing on the show is smarter than that and looking forward to how it unfolds.
- The two new med students. The woman, Joy, is especially cracking me up. I like the dynamic with Whitaker being the one showing them the ropes. Like seeing Whitaker get to be competent and comfortable in his role.
- Also liking Javadi's newfound comfort and that she's a lot less timid than last season. Also the potential for her mom to be around more and see their dynamic, with Santos sucking up to Javadi's mom in the mix.
- What is the deal with the abandoned baby? I will admit that even though it was a cheap way to get me hooked and do a cliffhanger, it worked on me. Who left the baby?
- There are also hints that Whitaker is in fact living with Santos as they agreed at the end of season one, and that Santos is in a relationship with Garcia (from surgery) and there's a bit of a three's company vibe there. Don't think it's going to be a major storyline but could be funny -- I like when the show mixes in humor.
Also even though it wasn't a major plot point, I really liked the way they handled the homeless man who smelled really bad. It was easy to empathize with everyone in the waiting area who was about to pass out from the stench when he was out there, and to feel bad for the doctors and nurses when he comes back into the ER. But then when Dana shows the new nurse the outdoor shower and they stand outside the shower while the guy cleans himself up, and he says something like "I could stay in here for ever" as he scrubs himself under the water, and Dana talks about just being human and how sometimes people's needs are so basic. They turned the homeless man from a minor plot point and a joke into a real person and also perhaps showed us why Dana decided to come back to the ER after threatening to quit at the end of last season. I was just really touched by this storyline and am glad they found time for it.

Agree with many of your points, but this in particular. No helmet is supposed to be shorthand for, “Uh-oh. Things are still not all ironed out for Dr. Robby.”

Hopefully season 2's dcum discussion will not focus on hating her.
The writers agreed with DCUM.
DCUM was not united on that, many posters liked the character. And she wasn’t written off for chemistry, she’s a fundamentalist Christian and she had problems with the abortion story.
It was one sock puppeter mostly. Pretty much everyone agreed she was boring and underdeveloped.
Did you report that to Jeff? Because unless you did and he validates that, you are just creating a straw man. I liked the character. I’m not the author of every post that expressed that. Screaming sock puppet is just weak. You didn’t like her, she’s gone, but not because of your issues with her.

Can he please take off his jacket? Super cool that he rides his motorcycle without a helmet, but it's July. Santos is still annoying, I hope Langdon isn't going to be weepy all season, Mel and Whitaker and Javadi didn't really do anything, good to see Dana back but she's only amusing herself with her wisecracks.
I HATED seeing an ER doc riding a motorcycle. Come on, with what they've seen in terms of motorcycle gross injuries and fatalities?
