Even a school like MIT was still considered mostly a trade school into the 1950s. Ivies had 50 60 70% acceptance rates back in the 60s 70s. It has improved just like any other schools like you said, but strangely there are some(if more than one) person/people who are obsessed with the past specifically when it comes to Northeastern. Very weird.

Of course local state school is always a good option, but it applies to any private schools, and nothing specific about Northeastern.
