A lot of it is going to military bases and defense contractors, a lot is Social Security and Medicare, plus military retirement and Tricare since NC has a lot of military retirees. And the benefits that do go to poor people pay almost all the money directly to local businesses and institutions (hospitals, doctors, pharmacies, nursing homes, schools, grocery stores, and their vendors and employees), providing a lot of good jobs in the community. It’s just ridiculous how all these guys think that military contracts are private sector money but payments to hospitals are government waste. When I worked in Congress, the biggest complainers about government spending were retired military working for defense contractors and listening to Rush Limbaugh on the job.

I'm fat and would never support someone who thinks my weight makes me less of a person.

Your comment absolutely proves pp's point. Well done.

NP...
"Don't expect 95% to understand" and "all walks of life" are contradictory. You're talking about a narrow 5% then. And the PP above rightly states that fat people are one group among the many groups who can't understand or agree with your "movement."

"95% of the people ON DCUM." Not contradictory at all.
And, not sure why "fat people" are offended.
In fact, the comment that "fat people can't understand or agree with [this] movement" is just not true. As is evidenced by the crowds that attend his concerts.
I guess "fat people" has become a new voting bloc according to DCUM.

Ah, so your premise is that DCUM isn't the real world, it's all some phony artificial construct. Way to show your arrogance and dismissal. You're actually worse than the people you deign to be critical of.

Working class whites are not a monolith and you are being simplistic and bigoted in your analysis.

Np. Your white fragility is cute. The vast majority of working class whites voted for the policies( Reagan's trickle down economics) that brought their demographic and economic demise.Cry me an ocean , ok?! If working clas whites aren't monolithic, they've done a poor job at proving it .

Working class people voted for Reagan because they were facing stagflation and were promised a way out. Highly educated economists didn’t know the exact path forward at that time so how on earth can you blame uneducated poor people for what the wealthy stole from them? It was a scam. Not to mention that anyone that isn’t a senior citizen in 2023 was not old enough to vote for Reagan. You are simply a bigot.

No they voted for him because he was a racist. Reagan was a reaction to the civil rights movement, Vietnam, the oil crisis and Iranian hostage. He was very anti union and hated the blue collar workers. He was mostly a reaction to civil right movement.

I'm certainly not a huge fan of Reagan policy in general and I'm not here to defend his character but you clearly have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Him getting elected in 1980 most certainly wasn't a reaction to the civil rights movement. He got elected because he was nominated by the party running in opposition to the incumbent at a time when the US economy was turned upside down and we were still reeling from a foreign policy standpoint from the Vietnam War debacle. Carter's administration wasn't solely to blame for this by any means but when the country is struggling to the extent it was struggling in the election year of 1980, the incumbent is not going to be re-elected 100 times out of 100.

+1 exactly--thank you

I don't understand why so many people have attached their own personal views as being the motivation behind the lyrics of the song (the right, the left, the middle). It is just a song, by a random, simple person who self published their work. I don't think they're sophisticated lyrics with deep meanings.

I have seen a few interviews of the singer and his message seems to be he likes diversity and he isn't affiliated with any political party. He is what we call in central Virginia a GDI. IYKYK. That's all.

Also I read he's making upwards of $50,000 a day from streaming.
