Russia itself is completely undefended - no minefields, no trenches, no heavy artillery, nothing. They've been taken completely by surprise. All their forces are in Ukraine itself. The UAF has complete freedom of movement.
Ukraine has about a month to go on the offense here until everything turns into mud. And there is so much they can do now that they're behind Russian lines. We'll see if Ukraine commits. But they are potentially in a position to cause some serious mayhem. Time will tell. Ballsy move.
Maybe they can go straight to Moscow and kill Putin.

Umm... what's going on in Kursk, guys?
Ukraine has (even according to Russian milbloggers) captured almost 200 square km and more than a dozen towns, likely now also including the District administrative center of Sudzha, have captured the main gas meter station supplying all of eastern Europe, have captured a huge number of surrendered Russian troops, have destroyed several Russian aircraft sent to stop them, they took out a prominent Russian military livestreamer. The Ukrainians also control the high ground and control a key rail route needed for Russian military supply now and have more reinforcements pouring in to continue their advance.
And meanwhile, the Russian response has been lies and chaos, with locals from Sudzha and other towns saying that Russian media is lying, the situation is not at all under control by Russia, that nobody on the Russian side is helping them to evacuate, that what few Russian troops were there either ran away, surrendered (there are videos of Russian mass surrenders by the dozens) or are now lying dead in the streets - along with reports that Russia mistakenly bombed its own fleeing columns of troops and equipment.
The video of Gerasimov briefing Putin on the situation was something to behold as well - with Putin looking like he was either going to puke or go find a gun and shoot Gerasimov.
Won't it be hilarious if next we see Putin complaining to the international community about sovereignty and borders and demanding that Ukraine return to the 1991 border 🤣🤣
It's probably just a raid to get Russia to redeploy soldiers from its Kharkiv offensive. But... it's been very successful so far. And as Wagner demonstrated last year, there are no defenses or fortifications between the border and Moscow. Would love to see Ukraine do a thunder run and exploit the situation. Russian military bloggers are in full panic mode. And UA is maintaining radio silence. It's all rumors now. But fingers crossed. 350 sq km in two days bodes well.
There's a lot of speculation that the thunder run may also include capturing the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant and possibly the city of Kursk itself - they are already half way there. Citizens in Sudzha spoke with the Ukrainians, said they were friendly but said the locals might want to consider learning the Ukrainian anthem and getting ready for a referendum to make that portion an oblast of Ukraine. 😜
