Really everyone should be reassessing. They are potential carriers and spreaders even if they are young and have not health problems. It's about having some sort of personal sense of responsibility for your community and your fellow citizens. Just being a good neighbor. You don't know if your coworker has a child, spouse or parent with health issues.

Though we know this behavior is because as a society we are individually minded not community minded. In some ways this can be good, but in times like this really bad.

Exactly. But lets be real Americans don't have that sense of responsibility. I have friends who are already talking about -- hmm flights are getting cheap, I may go on a vacation, what's the big deal, it would only be a cold if I even got it or so what if I got stuck in Aruba for a few extra days if flights were grounded. So I take it you have no coworkers, neighbors, or friends or relatives in any risk group -- no one over 60 and no younger friends with underlying conditions that may not be tattooed on their foreheads? You don't intend to come back and take Ubers and grab dinner - thus exposing people who may have conditions you can't see and/or have jobs where they have no sick time/can't telework etc. People are selfish and we need these types of blanket statements from CDC and/or actual cancellations of events like concerts etc. or else ppl will just say -- shrug, I paid, I'm not canceling bc I could get a cold.

And I love that everyone here is normally sooo rich that they scoff on those with merely a 300k HHI but God forbid they lose $500 or $1500 on a trip . . . let's just put the rest of us at risk bc American won't refund your tix or you've anticipated your trip for a year but like a child you cannot bear a little disappointment for safety -- yours but also people around you, coworkers, etc.

Question to ask yourselves: "If I don't get a full refund or refund at all, how will it affect my life 5 years from now?" My guess is not at all.

We’re American but live overseas & I’m trying to send my kid to summer camp, but they are expensive (~£15k). So far, none of the camps say they are canceling; and if we elect to cancel, there’s no refund. None of them are screening/quarantining kids coming from ‘hot’ zones, and they commonly get kids from Asia & Italy.

Spending $20k for my kid to get sick or worse seems stupid, so I’m hoping there’s some kind of insurance out there that will let me cancel if there isn’t better prevention in place by summer.

You to camp if this still continues into May: "I am canceling and want my money back. If you don't you will be hearing from my lawyer, every news agency, etc."

Quick getaway with DD to Florida over Easter — April 9th thru 13th. Flying in and out of Tampa and staying at the beach. I have until March 27th to cancel VRBO for full refund — can’t cancel the flight.

She is 16, I am 50, and we are both very healthy with no underlying issues.

Thoughts?

Assess your risk tolerance. Healthcare there is pretty good, government is sane, and there have fewer cases than us I think. If you got stuck there for a couple weeks, would you lose your jobs? Would it bankrupt you? What about if Ireland closes national heritage sites—would you feel like your vacation was wasted or be happy just wandering around? We are in a similar situation and I’m thinking about going but can’t decide—we ae past our cancellation windows so at this point might as well defer decision.

Been saying this for weeks now. Next thing you know we'll finally get travel advisories for France and Germany. Of course that person who already flew out on their vacation is screwed though.

Ugh. Not sure what to do. We (family of 3, 2 adults, one 13 year old, all healthy) have booked a trip to St. John April 7 for 7 nights. Last day to cancel VRBO for full refund is midnight tonight. We have flights departing Chicago, change planes in Miami on to St. Thomas, ferry to St. John. Return flight through Charlotte. Honestly, the airports are scarier to me than the planes for some reason. Husband and son think I'm being too cautious.
