By all accounts he was REALLY goal-oriented and unusually career and future-oriented. His friends said he was known for being that way.
Suddenly he lost all of that. There was no graduating from college, let alone getting a job in finance or the CIA or whatever. It makes complete sense that he would respond by trying to kill himself. After all he was still a young guy. Frontal lobe not fully formed. Still in that impulsive stage of youth. He lost everything. Not surprising at all he would attempt to kill himself.
Then he was stable (although unresponsive) for a year and then for some reason NK decided "hey this guy isn't getting better, in fact he's looking worse. We need to ship him back".
And so he arrived on US soil and either the trip was traumatic and he developed pneumonia (very likely given he's not clearly his own secretions, etc and people in a vegetative state actually need a lot of day-to-day care to remain healthy and certainly he was getting none or less of this on a airplane)
OR somehow subconsciously his body knew he was "home" and allowed him to pass on (also not unreasonable as sick and even unconscious people hang on all the time until they say goodbye to the right family member or whatever).
No. And your speculation regarding his thought process is shameful and is made worse by the fact you aren't paying attention to what is being reported because you've got wrong facts.
huh? You're not paying attention to what is being reported.
He was known for having his career path mapped out.
From the Washington Post:
"He was unusually disciplined, certain of his major and with his path to a career in finance mapped out early on; as a junior he already had enough credits to graduate, a summer at the London School of Economics completed, and a summer internship likely to lead to a job offer after graduation".
This is not typical for a college junior.
Another article I read talked about how he while he was very personable, he was incredibly goal-focused and he didn't let anything get in the way of his goals (a quality that was noted as being beyond his years).
You put a 15 year prison sentence in the way of a 20 year old like this and it's not unthinkable that he would do something rash.

That would go along with Obama's ridiculous mindset - don't do anything that bullies will interpret as criticism. Any 1st grader knows that bullies see that as weakness, and go after their victims even more.
Tough but serious question here: do you think Obama would have responded differently if it had been a black college student? I'm not trying to start anything here, just curious what others think. And if you think his response would have been the same regardless, I can respect that. Just curious if others think there might have been implicit bias against Otto. Just look at some of the responses here for examples.
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE!
Everytime you post sh1t like this you sound like a bitter racist who HATED that Obama, a black man, was in the White House. So just SFTU.
Quite the response....sounds defensive....

The other Americans in North Korean captivity are Kim Dong-chul, Tony Kim (also known as Kim Sang-duk), and Kim Hak-song. Do you think that Trump would have responded differently if they had been white college students?
Anonymous wrote:Obama's strategy clearly didn't work but it's impossible to say whether Trump would have been able to secure Otto's release had he been president at the time.

Let's just ignore this.

I do think that he would have moved heaven and earth. It wasn't just about rescuing Bergdahl - it definitely had to do with Bergdahl's father putting on Muslim garb and speaking Arabic on the WH lawn. Had he just been a white soldier, I firmly believe he would not have gone through that "exchange". It was all about a dog and pony show for Obama.
It was absolutely a slap in the face that he spoke Arabic on the White House lawn, with the ridiculous excuse that his son might have forgotten how to speak English. Even worse was Obama's visceral reaction when he broke into a smile the instant the father switched from English to Arabic.

Got it. Trump can only get Americans released if they are in comas and near death.
Obama can only get Americans released if he secretly delivers a ton of money in unmarked planes in the middle of the night.
Is that how Obama got Andrew Tahmooressi out of a Mexican prison?
Are you kidding me? Obama was completely ineffective. That guy's release was negotiated by two Republican senators (one from NM and the other from AZ), and they - long with Montel Williams, who is not with the military - flew down there and met with the. Mexican judge.

NK did this to him.
