This court record refers to a standard but important procedural step in the criminal case against Thomas Mahony (sometimes spelled Mahoney), the former World Bank economist and Australian diplomat who was arrested in July 2025 on charges of first- and second-degree child sexual abuse in Northwest D.C.
Here is a breakdown of what those specific terms and names mean in the context of this report:
1. Notice of Discovery
A Notice of Discovery is a formal document filed by the prosecution (the government) to notify the defense that they have evidence ready for review.
* The Goal: In the U.S. legal system, the prosecution is required to share the evidence they have against a defendant (police reports, witness statements, forensic data, etc.) so the defense can prepare for trial.
* The Timing: Filing this on 2/17/2026 suggests the case is moving out of the initial charging phase and into the "evidence exchange" phase.
2. US Attorney Jeanine Pirro
While you may recognize Jeanine Pirro as a former Fox News host, she was confirmed as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia in August 2025.
* Why her name is there: As the head of the office, her name appears on nearly all federal and major local criminal filings in D.C.
* Is she personally trying the case? Unlikely. While she oversees the office, the day-to-day work is typically handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs). Her name on the record simply identifies the "Office of the U.S. Attorney" as the prosecuting entity.
3. The "Missing" File
It is very common for court portals to show a "Notice" or "Entry" before the actual PDF document is viewable. This usually happens for one of three reasons:
* Processing Delay: The clerk's office has logged the filing, but the digital scan hasn't been "pushed" to the public-facing server yet.
* Technical Glitch: Online court databases frequently experience lag or attachment errors.
* Seal/Redaction: In sensitive cases involving child abuse, some discovery documents are filed under seal or heavily redacted to protect the identities of victims. If the file remains "not showing," it may be because it is not intended for public viewing.

Court records say that on 2/17, there was a Notice of Discovery, and US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro is listed as the Attorney for the case. There's supposed to be fa ile attached, but it's not showing up at the moment.

Then today, as in months past, it says the felony status conference schedule for today resulted in the hearing vacated, and the next status hearing is March 13th. And he was returned to prison.

Kicking the can down the road I guess. But the notice of discovery is new.

Agreed. Best to start a separate thread for that subject. Mahony's next court date is scheduled for tomorrow.
