Not so fast.

A Louisiana woman who purchased a Lamborghini while fraudulently obtaining Medicaid benefits is facing a fraud charge, authorities said this week.

Candace Taylor, 35, of Slidell, dubbed the "Medicaid millionaire" by the office of Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, was arrested Monday. The state Bureau of Investigation began looking into Taylor after receiving a complaint from the Louisiana Health Department saying she underreported her income to qualify for Medicaid benefits.

"From 2021 through 2024, Ms. Taylor continued to transfer tens of thousands of dollars between her personal and business accounts, with personal inflows consistently exceeding the eligibility thresholds for Medicaid," the affidavit directly states.

Medicaid provides health insurance for low-income adults and children. The program is partially funded and primarily managed by state governments. The federal government establishes parameters for states to follow. However, each state administers their Medicaid program differently.

Taylor initially applied for Medicaid in May 2019 under the alias Candace Sailor, listing a bi-weekly income of $1,900 and no dependents, authorities said. That application was denied.

Less than a year later, she re-applied under the same misspelled name, prosecutors said. She was allegedly inconsistent with the years she reported having a dependent.

Investigators eventually discovered she owned six different businesses that generated more than $9.5 million between January 2020 and December 2024, according to court documents.

A look at her accounts revealed deposits totaling $480,994.09, with over $325,000 directly attributable to Taylor's business activities, authorities said. In addition, transfers and payments were disbursed from one account, including $45,086.65 in vehicle payments to Audi Finance.

Other purchases included a $100,000 wire transfer to Tactical Fleet, an exotic car dealership, followed by a $13,000 debit card transaction for the purchase of a 2022 Lamborghini Urus, authorities said.

She is an anomaly, she had many times over the US average HHI and could afford GOOD health insurance. Why risk it all for spotty Medicaid coverage and jail time? I truly don’t understand the mindset of people like this.

Because our welfare state is a mess.

Welfare was meant to help those in a bind, not serve as a lifeline for grifters like her.

We need to put short term caps on this shit.

You lose your job, you qualify for Medicaid for a week or two until you get a new job. Not months (or even years).

What we need to do is audit for it and start looking for it.

Not just ignore it like it's not there. That would be the modern day democrat party that systemizes fraud and hides it with a wink and a nod, and then begins to justify it going on as systemic justice.

Despite making comments about "defund the police" and "abolish the prisons" years ago, neither of those have been part of Mamdani's current campaign platform and when asked about it he has said he does not plan to defund the police if elected. As for the "city run grocery stores" he is not planning any kind of soviet-style takeover. He is proposing one low-cost grocery store in each borough, to be located in a known food-desert area where there is currently no real competition from other grocers.

If you can't provide the proper context and nuance when making your inflammatory comments about Warren and Mamdani then you are being intellectually dishonest.

Lol... Warren is almost as old and out of it as Trump and Biden are. She does not speak for any mainstream major political party agenda. Turn off the elderly mumble jumble and tune into the future. The sad days of the Trump/Biden era will soon be behind us!

Democrats are ok with fraud.

Wrong.

the GOP whines to the high heavens about fraud while firing regulators who find fraud. And while committing fraud themselves. Who do you think is banking all the money from government contracts. Wake up dipshit.

95% of GOP and Democratic politicians have to be okay with fraud because that's essentially how their campaigns are funded. Few regular American people still identify as "Republicans" or "Democrats" anymore since those political party entities have become embarrassments to be associated with. It's now an insult when someone refers to you as a Republican or Democrat which really tells you how far and how fast we've fallen politically.
