Seriously, both Harris and Walz are 100% progressives with no history of reaching out to the other side. California and Minnesota? That’s like the Republicans putting up an Alabama/Oklahoma ticket and wondering why they’re not catching on.
This. Ugg.
Signed a Moderate Conservative who is:
- Pro-Choice (Dem) but Pro-Life if fetus is viable outside the womb; abortion is not birth control.
- Pro "Legal" Immigration and strongly supportive of border security and even revoking automatic citizenship if born in US (Rep) - apply 3 strikes and you're deported laws for illegal immigrants committing crime.
- Anti carte blanche support of Israel without checks & balances (Rep/Dem?)
- Supportive of LGBTQ Rights (Dem) -- but gender ideology does not belong in schools (Rep) and gender affirming care of minor children such as for a 6 yr old -- is wrong (Rep). This case is on point: https://www.boredpanda.com/dad-granted-full-custody-after-mom-raised-son-non-binary/ -- 4 yr olds should not be forced to be non-binary...geez let kids be kids.
- Healthcare Reform - needed but not so far as to be universal healthcare (Rep)
- Education...in favor of reduced/free college education for the trades -- in fact...take some of the illegal immigrants who have been here for over 10-15+ yrs (because realistically you can't deport them all) and educate them in the trades. Fix our education system and stop focusing on stupid issues that don't belong in schools. Teach tolerance and respect as a two-way street. (Rep..with a dash of Dem)
- Crime -- stop rewarding criminal activity with catch & release!! (Rep
Psssst. You’re not a moderate.
Agree to disagree. But if you want to say "independent" that's fine too...tomato tamato.
You’re not an independent, either. You’re a right winger who uses right wing talking points. You can call yourself whatever you want, but you have framed your entire worldview around the right wing’s viewpoints.
DP. It’s pretty amazing that common sense viewpoints are considered “right wing” - but then I remembered that this is DCUM and it makes perfect sense. Thank god this site doesn’t represent (in any way) the rest of the country.

Have you bothered to actually read this thread? Apparently not. He’s been called out for allowing illegal immigrants in his state to get driver’s licenses. He’s been called out for his useless actions (or inaction) during the George Floyd riots. He insisted boys’/mens’ bathrooms be stocked with tampons?
Look, you can cheerlead all you want for his folksy demeanor but don’t try and pretend he isn’t as progressive as it gets. Harris could have pulled in some swing voters/independents by choosing Shapiro, but the antisemites in the Democratic party were having none of that.
Right wingers have posted a metric ton of lies, yeah. We saw it, some of us responded to you.
Good luck in November. I’m sure Trump’s dementia won’t continue to progress and JD won’t lick his lips when he eyes a couch, not to mention their support of the democracy ending Project 2025.

He was serving in the National Guard at that time- why was he allowed to keep his career? DUI/DWI is a career ending event.
Anonymous wrote:Tim Walz really is that guy at Home Depot that you don’t know that spends 20-30 minutes randomly explaining to you why you need to use hex bolts for your project. JD Vance is the guy berating the cashier at Panera for not giving him a refill on his lemonade. That’s the difference

Not to mention he’s a convicted felon / drunk driver.

As governor, Walz also has signed several pieces of legislation to provide state-funded health care, driver’s licenses and free college tuition to illegal migrants.
“Ensuring drivers in our state are licensed and carry insurance makes the roads safer for all Minnesotans,” Walz said in 2023 after signing the bill to allow thousands of illegal migrants in his state with driver’s licenses.

Doctors have an obligation to treat a human irrespective of immigration status, so "they" all get taxpayer funded heathcare.
Anyone can get a drivers license. It doesn't make them a naturalized citizen.
State level tuition helps keeps the regional state universities like Bemidji, UMD or Mankato State more viable and vibrant.
Please explain the downsides to these three things you are objecting to.

Anonymous wrote:It's "Make America Great Again" versus "Make America Normal Again." The financier ticket of Trump and Vance is beset by the weird proclivities of the idle rich -- obsessed with genitals and bodily fluids and idiosyncratic notions of "greatness."
The Democrats picked much more ordinary people favoring kind of boring policies that aren't all that flashy but might help ordinary people get through the work day.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Biggest question: Does Tim Walz move the needle for independents/moderates?
yes, he does. In a good way.
Agree. Independent here. Walz is refreshingly free of the naked ambition that Vance displays.
Walz reminds me a lot of my midwestern relatives. Very different but likeable and straightforward. He’s high energy (I loved him on the ride at the fair) and seems genuinely interested in governing to improve people’s lives.
He admits to being a socialist.

Better than Shapiro.
I think she should have gone moderate/ conservative.
Appeal to both aspects of the party, independents and conservative never Trumpers.
3 months from now we'll know.
Nah, that's loser talk. She's already fairly moderate. If she wants to energize her base and increase turnout, this was the smart pick.
I am outside of the DC , though not a swing state the population is very similar to those in swing states.
No she's not moderate by measures outside of the Democratic party or rather a faction of the Democratic party.
If you were alive in the 70s, you know that most current Democratic politicians are more conservative than their predecessors. A lot of them are more conservative than 20th century Republicans.
People urging Democrats to appeal to "moderates" or say that they themselves are "moderates" are really pretty conservative.
+1
Nixon would be labeled a liberal today.
On the other hand, I’ve often read that President Kennedy would be a conservative today and that the Democratic Party is way more liberal today than in the 60s. Everything is relative in terms of the issues people are facing in their own times.
Actually, Nixon and Reagan are progressives by today's standards.
Nixon was no conservative, that isn't a revelation. That was understood even during his term.
Reagan however is no progressive by the standards of any time.
True, though on both Russia and Immigration, he would be considered a democrat today.
So by today's standards would you say Reagan was a moderate?

They are fake celebrating, this pick is the death of Trumps campaign
Agreed.
They really thought it was going to be Shapiro and the Republicans were so excited. Which just means that the constant drip of leaks about Shapiro Shapiro Shapiro was a master move by the Harris campaign.
Trump is still the oldest candidate ever, and he’s sleepy. DonOLD.
Nah, that was Biden.
